| Necropolitan04-17-06, 01:30 PM | I recently had an idea with the scrapping of a template of mine, for a unique game. I remembered reading over the old Savage Species rulebook, about how they built certian races into a class template, to where instead of taking levels as a Fighter or Cleric, the PC took levels as a Succubus or a Raksasha. Now lately this started turning over in my mind as I thought about how people never seem to do anything interesting with human-based characters: sure you see half-elf, half fiends, and so forth and so on - but what about just warping a human character? Suddenly, I had an idea. I thought it'd be interesting, to take the racial class idea, and apply it to a all-human campaign; make each character design a 'human' character, then let them choose from one prebuilt racial class that would more or less; make them 'freaks'. Now I was wondering how balenced that would be, I thought it'd be a little more high-powered then most starting 5th level games, but I was hoping the lack of pre-defined class abilties like the monk's unamed fighting, or wizard spells would help with that, here's a basic concept that crossed my mind while contemplating this: The Juggernaut Both born and built, the Juggernaut is a unholy meshing of man and machine, orginally a man of no small size, he's been warped and re-arranged through a hideious mix of magic, science and deranged ambition - he's become a veritable frankenstien; not quite human, not quite machine, metal in his blood and iron on his bones, he's a tourtured portitrat of one man's death, and his subsiquent unwilling ressurection. This template would focus on the character adapting to his new partially metal body, and would allow differnt things a she advanced, I planned to make him able to at later levels, change his golem sbutype, say from iron to mithril, and later (MUCH later) from mithril to adamantine, gaining abilites from this; like a degree of damage redcution, or spell resistence. The focus of the roleplay would be how the character's deal with being 'freaks', I planned to make it sort of a steampunk setting, with the whole neo-victorian theme going for it, so that soceity would be very imposing and hostile to things that are different, and the freakish PCs ending up as the classic Reluctant Heroes for a world that hates them would be an intruiguing dynamic. Of course, I'm still having balence issues on what would be overpowered, and what wouldn't as a racial class ability, any suggestions? |
