A good mount [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-26-07, 04:17 PM I'm in search of a good mount which can fly and if its possible swim.

One of my possible picks is currenlty a nightmare. But its an evil creature and I would prefer something that won't cause a panic and a riot in every village that I visit.

The ECL of my character is 10 and I'm willing to spend money and a feat to get this mount.

I know of the dragon steed feat in the draconomicon but I really hate the way the dragonell looks.

So does anyone know of a good mount?

05-26-07, 08:56 PM Animate something that swims, sew wings onto it, cast gentle repose before it rots too much, and just say it needed surgery to any questioning commoners.

Or, enlarge a flying fish. :tongue:

05-26-07, 11:04 PM Is your char chaotic or evil? If not the Asperi from the MMII might be a good choice. It can't swim, but it looks like a normal horse and therefore might draw less attention than most other things that can fly. Also, it's intelligent and has telepathy.

05-29-07, 04:49 AM Garonak's right I'm afraid. The Asperi can carry 75 pounds. Thats very little especially since I will probably have to pull another party member out of the water or some other kind of hot soup before the adventure is over.

Garonak's right I'm afraid. The Asperi can carry 75 pounds.

Light load is 150 lbs., actually, cuz it's size L.
+4 horseshoes of Str, mebbe?:D

05-31-07, 06:38 PM I've been looking around a little more. And right now I'm thinking maybe a Dire eagle from races of stone.
Its a pretty solid mount with a decent amount of HP and a good AC to start with.

And with mage armor and suchlike I can increase it to a level where neither I or my mount is at risk of dying.

05-31-07, 06:50 PM An Air Element Dire Barracuda (ala Manual of the Planes and Stormwrack). You've got a CR 5 creature with a swim speed of 80 ft., fly speed of 100 ft. (perfect), 19 Str, DR 5/magic, and the ability to move at x3 speed with a charge.

Good luck taming one, though.
