Iknow the formians have guardian giant-ants, and the beetle-like creatures in MM2 have guardians as well. Probably many creatures that have many types, like devils and demons have guardian types. There are a few guardians in BoED as well, but then again, you aren't looking for outsiders. For dragons, if there are, you will probably find them in the Draconomicon, though i'm not sure some exist. For magical beasts there are few in BoED. That's all i can think of at the moment. Hope that hepled, Hochi. |

(admittedly the save DC based off of cha, but who cares if the DC is a little low. you should be able to get yourself at least a few beholders dominated, and you should therefore be able to replace them easily (in fact, if you have a queen, you could get absolutely ridiculous numbers of beholders in the area simply by ordering them all to not eat their young, and controlling the young). especially if you make sure that none of the beholders have anti-magic eyes (either make them beholder mages, or just get the right kind of beholder-kin). now that would be scary. alternatively, giants tend to lose relatively little when you make them into an elder eidolon (or an effigy for that matter, which is much cheaper... and which is why i've been spending time looking at this). although for some reason they lose their rock catching ability. and the cloud giant loses it's oversized weapon. destrachan could make interesting guard creatures. their sonic attacks have no save DC at all. unfortunately, they lose their blindsight, but i guess you can't have everything. also, an elder brain or various forms of illithid could work. |
