| BeSc07-04-07, 03:14 AM | How do I make this work? What I want to do is make a barfight break out and then somehow involve the PC's, but I want to have the characters react individually and have individual (but mainly the same) stats (e.g. different weapons or clothing, not much really). I also want them to fight amongst each other and completely trash the place, and possibly even have a few just slump onto the ground from being too drunk at various points in the combat. I could really use some help with this guys as this is my first time DMing and I cant figure out how to make this work. If youre wondering why this is in the monsters section, monsters are technically monsters. Thanks to anyone who can help! |
| Dazzer07-04-07, 03:33 AM | A mob of "commoners" is actually statted in the DMG II A mob of any race can be made, but the example was human commoners. A mob is always, a 30HD swarm type creature. It takes weapon damage as normal (if small sized or larger). It takes 50% more damage from area effect spells. Mob Hitdice are based on creature type (not class). So a mob of commoners (d4 hitdice) would actually have d8's since humanoids have d8 racial hitdice. Whereas a mob of fey creatures, would have d6 hitdice since fey have d6's. Since a mob of creatures this size isn't made up of thousands, but rather tens of creatures, killing a particular individual deals 2 negative levels to the mob, after the mob reaches it's HD total in negative levels, it disperses as the rules for dispersing below. A mob's stats, are 10 or 11, plus or minus the modifier for the creature being used. A mob of orcs for example, would have 15, 10, 10, 9, 9, 8. This is because orcs have -2 to mentals, and +4 strength. A mob moves 10ft slower than the base creature used per round. A mob is GARGATUAN in size. Mob do not have feats in the standard sense. They have feats like a normal minimum HD creature of that type. For example, a human mob would have 2 feats. (1 for being level 1, and 1 for being human). A Dragonkin mob (7HD) would have 3 feats (1, 3, 6). This rule supercedes that of 1 feat per 3 HD as mobs all have 30 HD. Mobs gain Improved Over-Run, and Improved Bullrush, as bonus feats. Mobs deal 5d6 damage, bludgeoning. DR is bypassed as normal for the base creatures natural attacks. DR is applied ONCE for a mob attack. Other than that, read up in the DMG 2 for more information! There is actually a lot more about mobs. Have Fun! A mob is a CR 8, or +2 from base creature (whichever is higher) |
| BeSc07-04-07, 03:36 AM | yeah i had all of that its just the fact i wanted it to be a pointless barfight where everyones battling everyone. I guess calling it a 'mob' was the wrong thing to do cos technically its not. |
| Andorxor07-04-07, 06:15 AM | Make 2 mobs that fight each other and the PCs. |
| BeSc07-04-07, 06:22 AM | good point, though maybe i shouldnt make them mobs, as they would then have trample and all that, and they are only going to be about 5 or 6 medium humanoids (most likely humans) hmmmmmmm........ |
| BeSc07-04-07, 06:23 AM | maybe make 4 or 5 even smaller mobs...... (think, think, think!!!) |
| ADHadh07-04-07, 07:02 AM | Just describe an utter chaos and make them roll to hit anything. ;) |
| Werral07-04-07, 11:57 AM | Yeah if you want to stat it make a table with random commoners like "the beer-bellied dwarf" the bearded pisshead and so forth. Roll on the table and see who tries to hit the PC's, they can hit who they like and maybe give them Xp for what they do. You can do it without the table. Weirdly my players have enjoyed tavern brawls more than important combats... |
