| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-26-04, 06:07 PM | ok, heres the rules for thouse who haven't seen these rules before: Arhra's Compilation Method of Monster Creation Each person replies and posts a single idea for a monster. This can be anything from number of limbs to mental characteristics to special attacks or personality traits. Keep these concepts relatively vague as they have to work together. After 20 ideas have been put in, the thread starter will create a monster including all of these ideas. Feel free to suggest stuff for how these 20 concepts will work together or speculate while the monster is under construction. Then the thread starter will post up the monster. Rinse and repeat if desired. * edit added later by Arhra: You may not refer to in game statistics, e.g. saying "It is very strong" is acceptable but saying "it has a Strength score of 22" is not. the differnce is that if the ideas are poor i will continue, and since i will post three ideas, it will be stopped at 22 1:is a tiny dragon with the symbiont subtype 2:attaches to the back, paricualarly along the spine 3:comes with multiple variants with this in mind, lets have fun, now shall we? |
| cwslyclgh05-26-04, 06:12 PM | increases the strength of its host |
| NightScreamer2005-26-04, 06:26 PM | each variant is an elemental subtype (Fire, Air, Earth, Cold) Question: If I take this idea right now before it's finished and make a creature out of it can I post it on your Symbiont post Melles oh Great Lord of Badgers? |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-26-04, 06:41 PM | yes |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-26-04, 06:45 PM | 6: it's wingless 7:each variant makes a different thing on the host back (wings, spikes, shell, and somthing else) aparently there are going to be at least 8 symbionts, 4 by nightscreamer, and at least 4 by me, maybe more! |
| Smite-Mo-Tron05-26-04, 07:34 PM | 9. He uses psionics powered by the hosts hit points. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-26-04, 08:48 PM | @ Smite-Mo-Tron:could you claify: do you mean using pisonic powers using the host's hp instead of it's own power points? all and all, geinus @ all:what ablity score(s) should it drain? |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-27-04, 10:59 PM | #?: doesn't like living on a thread with no more ideas seriously though, lets get cracking. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-28-04, 11:57 PM | hello? |
| DwarvinJedi05-29-04, 12:47 AM | the True #9- It drains the mental scores of its host, and eventually completly takes over the mind of the host, while upping its hosts physical stats. That was kind of two ideas, who cares |
| Impernious05-29-04, 03:42 AM | This sounds a little like a draconic mind-flayer... :) 11? The host becomes completely dependent on it, if they separate, they each only have a short amount of time to find another before each dies. |
| Arhra05-29-04, 05:48 AM | Someone;s using my method eh? I'm glad I named it after me then. :D I'll add some ideas to the mix. 12? The symbiont is actually the immature form of the creature |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-29-04, 08:58 AM | thank you Arhra 13. i doesn't grow if it attaches before a certin age 14.at that age, it goes into a coccon (i'll right up stats for this, too) |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-29-04, 09:23 AM | ideas so far: (part to be disscussed are in bold) 1:is a tiny dragon with the symbiont subtype 2:attaches to the back, paricualarly along the spine 3:comes with multiple variants 4:increases the strength of its host 5:each variant is an elemental subtype (Fire, Air, Earth, Cold) (nightscreamer20 took ideas 1-5 and is makeing a sperate monster) 6:it's wingless 7:each variant makes a different thing on the host back (wings, spikes, shell, or somthing else) 8(called 9):uses psionics powered by the hosts hit points. 9:It drains the mental scores of its host, and eventually completly takes over the mind of the host, while upping its hosts physical stats. 10:The host becomes completely dependent on it, if they separate, they each only have a short amount of time to find another before each dies . 11:The symbiont is actually the immature form of the creature 12:it doesn't grow if it attaches before a certin age 13:at that age, it goes into a coccon (i'll right up stats for this, too) and eventually completly takes over the mind of the host, that sounds a bit strong to have that ablity, how about a high ego score? have to find another before each dies : that can happen with the host, but it says in the feind foliothat symbionts can last a pretty darn long time without a host so with these fixed, here is how it is now: 1:is a tiny dragon with the symbiont subtype 2:attaches to the back, paricualarly along the spine 3:comes with multiple variants 4: (this space for rent :D! the#9 make this obsolete *edit sold to myself:D) 5:each variant is an elemental subtype (Fire, Air, Earth, Cold) (nightscreamer20 took ideas 1-3+5 and is makeing a sperate monster) 6:it's wingless 7:each variant makes a different thing on the host back (wings, spikes, shell, or somthing else) 8(called 9):uses psionics powered by the hosts hit points. 9:It drains the mental scores of its host, and with it's unusally high ego score, dominates the host nigh daliy, while upping its hosts physical stats. 10:The host becomes completely dependent on it, if they separate, the host only has a short amount of time to find another before it dies . 11:The symbiont is actually the immature form of the creature 12:it doesn't grow if it attaches before a certin age 13:at that age, it goes into a coccon (i'll right up stats for this, too) *edit before posting: new #4: each variant has a differnt alignment |
| Blues05-29-04, 04:25 PM | (Joke #14: It blames the media.) REAL #14: It has a poisonous bite. |
| Shifting Master05-29-04, 05:38 PM | 15.) It has the Lemon Curry feat. ;) 16.) It attaches with its bite. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-29-04, 07:21 PM | like the lemon curry ooze or what? and also, i see a problem: posinous bite+attach=perment exposre to poisin=eventual death so how about 16: attaches with it's tail? 151/2: has a tail sting that has a berserking posin, giveing host and failed attachments rage as a barbain of equal level |
| Arhra05-30-04, 05:27 AM | Hmmm, after some consideration I think I should change my monster creation method to include the following: 'You may not refer to in game statistics, e.g. saying "It is very strong" is acceptable but saying "it has a Strength score of 22" is not.' I think it helps make a more cohesive monster if people say something like 'it can throw fire at its enemies' rather than 'it can use produce flames at will' 17: The symbiont is vulnerable to a particular substance. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-30-04, 10:24 AM | i'll change that at the top for the new helpers! does that ruin 151/2? hope it doesen't 18:likes to eat (or slup, if you perfer) oozes |
| Arhra05-31-04, 06:55 AM | Well its a bersekring aiblity. All I mean by the not refering to game mechanics is its to stop people getting tied down by the rule set. Besides, its not very flavourful to say 'it have the Cleave feat' or something like that. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-31-04, 07:00 AM | oh right ok! so if it has the cleave feat, we could say, it can cleave it's foes? |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-31-04, 07:13 AM | lets make have some ideas for the coccon and adlut form my extra rules ideas for symbionts: start post or place right before idea with with the word "symbionts" and when this was posted, we were on 19, so continue from there ideas for coccon: start post or space before it with "coccon" example: coccon 1: has a color acording to elemental subtype that is number one to have you know For big dragon thing: start post or space before it with "dragon" Dragon 1: all subtypes of symbiont become this one (dragon one was so i didn't have to make a adult form for every subtype) |
| Shifting Master05-31-04, 08:46 AM | Originally posted by Melles, Lord of Badgers Dragon 1: all subtypes of symbiont become this one (dragon one was so i didn't have to make a adult form for every subtype) Wouldn't it be easier to just give them an elemental breath weapon dependent on the type of symbiont that they developed from? IE: Crimsonite (Red): has a line of fire for its breath weapon Cerulite (Blue): has a line of electricity for its breath weapon Ivorite (White): has a line of cold for its breath weapon Ebonite (Black): has a line of acid for its breath weapon Emralite (Green): has a breath weapon that spreads a poison If you don't like my names, that's fine. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-31-04, 09:05 AM | no,no, i like the names, good idea about the breath weapons lets make that Dragon 2! for the poisin breath, it's a contact poisin, right? |
| Shifting Master05-31-04, 11:18 AM | No, the poison of the dragon form is inhaled. Cocoon 2: It catches food in a web that it spins, similar to a spider. Cocoon 3: It has many small legs like a centipede that allow it to move. Cocoon 4: It can freely move across all webs at a high speed. Cocoon 5: It has a taste for feathers of any kind. |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers05-31-04, 11:51 PM | i see. anyhow that coccon is reminding me of a spider *sudders and rushes off to another thread to see what's up* |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers06-01-04, 04:36 PM | :bump: |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers06-17-04, 03:14 PM | hola? anybody here? |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers09-09-04, 04:36 PM | after my internet has been down for ages i have returned! so, shall we keep the ideas coming? :D |
| Conaill09-10-04, 12:52 AM | When attached, it can't use its own breathweapon, but provides the host with a breath weapon. However, the host takes 1/2 damage from the breathweapon as well. |
| Dnd man01-28-05, 09:44 PM | ?#: all ways has see invisible and dispel magic on. ?#: it has amazingly good sense of smell and hearing but average eyesight(includes dark vision). urs truly...Dnd man |
| swordspell_mage04-27-06, 08:42 PM | Dragon 3: It's claws & teeth are psi-weapons Dragon 4: It has huge wings that can be used to bludgeon someone Dragon 5: It's chaotic good Dragon 6: It's telekinetic up to 5,000 pounds Cocoon #: It can hover with light telekinesis |
