To clarify what Olly is trying to say, Calibans are a regular player race in the Ravenloft setting, which typically come about due to parentage like you described.

Ravenloft is a campaign setting published by White Wolf (I think). It's pretty good, very gothic (in a Victorian literature, E. A. Poe way rather than a too-much-eyeshadow-and-teen-angst way).

The Calibans in Ravenloft are, mechanically, half-orcs. In story terms they're basically humans twisted in the womb by exposure to dark magics, evil curses and so on. They tend to get locked away, shunned, booted out of the village, and generally treated like dirt. Evil dirt at that.

If you're looking to replicate the actual character of Caliban from The Tempest, I'd look at a human with either the half-fiend or half-fey template; both have the potential to create a weird-looking ugly-ass monster with some magical ability. Caliban's mother was a powerful witch and his father is often assumed to be a demon or devil (though I'm not sure if the play explicitly states this).

That said, it's been a very long time since I even skimmed through the play, so I may be way off.

Technically, Caliban's appearance varies on the director's interpretation. Whilst in some he is a great, gangly, dog-face mutant, I have seen him depicted as a tall, handsome black man, a native of the island, seen as a monster by the other characters in the play because he is different.

So, you could just have him as a human barbarian. ;)

There was also a race called "hagspawn" in the FR Unapproachable East sourcebook. And as far as I remember Caliban was the son of a witch, right?
