| General_Ridley06-21-06, 08:29 PM | now, I've been watching FullMetal Alchemist more and more recently, largely thanks to the fact that I have Cartoon Network again. And while watching, I realized what an interesting challenge the 7 homunculi could pose in a D&D game. Of course, I don't want to recreate them exactly from the show (largely because I don't care to try memorizing each and every ability they have, and then add it in). So I decided to create my own versions of each of the Seven Deadly Sins. First, I'd like to present Lust. I'm not final on the Challenge rating, but from comparisons to monsters in the Monster Manual, I feel it belongs right around where I put it, give or take a point. I do make use of spells from sources outside the Player's Handbook and SRD for spell-likes, but I will list the books they come from at the bottom of the post for those interested in helping determine balance. LUST Medium Construct (Living Construct, Shapechanger) Hit Dice: 16d10 + 96 (184hp) Initiative: +6 Speed: 40 ft. (8 squares) Armor Class: 27 (+2 Dex, +8 natural, +7 deflection), touch 19, flat-footed 25 Base Attack/Grapple: +12/+14 Attack: 2 claws +18 melee (2d6 + 6) or +3 comp. longbow (+2 str bonus) +17 ranged (1d8 +5/x3) Full Attack: 2 claws +18 melee (2d6 +6) or +3 comp. longbow (+2 str bonus) +17/+12 ranged (1d8 +5/x3) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Blinding Beauty, Spell-like abilities, Ultimate Lance Special Qualities: Change Shape, Damage Reduction 10/Adamantine and magic, Fast Healing 5, Living Construct Traits, Master of the Spoken Word, Spell Resistance 28, Unearthly Grace Saves: Fort +17, Ref +14, Will +15 Abilities: Str 22, Dex 15, Con 20, Int 14, Wis 16, Cha 25 Skills: Bluff +32, Concentration +9, Diplomacy +30, Disguise +34 (+36 acting), Intimidate +11, Knowledge (History) +11, Sense Motive +13, Sleight of Hand +4 Feats: Ability Focus (Blinding Beauty), Combat Casting, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Improved Initiative, Improved Toughness, Mobility, Persuasive Environment: Any Organization: Solitary, or with any of the other Homunculi Challenge Rating: 12 - 14 Treasure: Double Standard Alignment: Neutral Evil Advancement: - Level Adjustment: - A being of the most clear beauty stands before you. His/Her (depends on how it chooses to appear) beauty is clearly unnatural, but it tugs at your heartstrings in such a way that you do not notice this. Lust is much less of a combatant than she is a trickster. She will win one over with her guile, and destroy them to sustain herself. Like all Homunculi, Lust subsists on the power of souls, and is tracking down a Philosopher's Stone so that seven can be used to grant the Homunculi human bodies. Spell-Like Abilities (sp): At Will- Charm Monster (DC 21), Transfix (DC 23). 3/day- Dominate Person (DC 22), Voice of the Dragon (DC 21). Caster Level 16, DCs are charisma based. Change Shape (su): Lust can assume the form of any Medium or Small humanoid. In humanoid form, Lust loses her natural attacks. Lust can remain in this form until she chooses a new one. A change in form can not be dispelled. A True Seeing spell or ability reveals her natural form. Use of this ability grants Lust a +10 bonus to disguise checks (not figured into the bonuses above). Blinding Beauty (su): This ability affects all humanoids within 30 ft. of Lust. Those who look directly at Lust must succeed on a DC 27 fortitude Save or be affected as though by the Blindness spell. Lust can suppress or resume this ability as a free action. The save DC is Charisma based Ultimate Lance (ex): Lust can extend her claws in an instant, giving her a 20ft reach with her claws. Her claws act as adamantine for the purpose of bypassing hardness and damage reduction. Unearthly Grace (su): Lust adds her Charisma modifier as a bonus on all saving throws and as a deflection bonus to her Armor Class. Master of the Spoken Word (ex): One round after hearing a language she does not know, Lust automatically absorbs full and perfect knowledge of the language. This means that Lust effectively knows all languages and suffers no chance of being discovered in disguise due to not knowing the language of an assumed form. Skills: Lust has a +4 racial bonus on Bluff checks and a +8 racial bonus to Disguise checks. Improved Toughness and Ability Focus (blinding Beauty) are bonus feats for Lust. Transfix can be found in Complete Arcane Voice of the Dragon can be found in the Draconomicon if anyone wants to critique and help me ascertain the CR of this, I would be glad to hear what you have to say. Still to come: Envy Gluttony Pride Wrath Greed Sloth and why they need seven Philosopher's Stones |
| Mr.Black06-22-06, 11:18 AM | It's a nice conversion of Lust. I would say its a CR 12-13 if you consider it a boss type. I would give her 2 claw attacks instead of the rapier. I would raise her strength to 22 and she would have 2 claws +18 (2d6+6) Then give her something like: Ultimate Lance: Lust can extend her claws in an instant, giving her a 20ft reach with her claws. Her claws act as adamantine for the purpose of bypassing hardness and damage reduction. The Sins also heal at a phenomenal rate; they either have fast healing or regeneration. |
| General_Ridley06-22-06, 12:31 PM | thanks. I wasn't sure whether or not to add those in, because I thought it would bring her too far from where I planned on having her (right around 12-13). Working on Envy right now, I'll try and get her in by tomorrow. |
| General_Ridley06-23-06, 02:59 PM | Well, not final on the CR here either, and I do use more non-core spells. ENVY Small Construct (living Construct, Shapechanger) Hit Dice: 12d10 + 96 (162 hp) Initiative: +4 Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares) Armor Class: 20 (+1 size, +4 Dex, +5 Natural Armor), touch 15, flat-footed 16 Base Attack/Grapple: +9/+7 Attack: Slam +12 melee (1d6 +3) Full Attack: 2 Slams +12 melee (1d6 +3) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Spell Siphon, Spell-like abilities Special Qualities: Change Shape, Damage Reduction 10/Adamantine and Magic, Lifeleech Aura, Living Construct Traits, Spell Resistance 20 Saves: Fort +12, Ref +9, Will +7 Abilities: Str 15, Dex 18, Con 24, Int 14, Wis 14, Cha 16 Skills: Concentration +18 (+22 casting defensively), Diplomacy +26, Disguise +18, Intimidate +28 Feats: Ability Focus (Spell Siphon), Combat Casting, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Improved Toughness Environment: Any Challenge Rating: 10-12? Treasure: Standard Alignment: Neutral Evil Advancement: - Level Adjustment: - A small child with wide, needy eyes stands before you. She looks as if she longs for something, but just what she desires can not be guessed. (note, I chose the form of a child for many reasons) Spell-like Abilities (su): At will- Suggestion (DC 16). 3/day- Cloak of Hate (DC 19). 1/day- Crown of Glory (DC 21). Caster level 12, Saves are Cha based. Change Shape (su) : Envy can assume the form of any Medium or Small humanoid. In humanoid form, Envy loses her natural attacks. Envy can remain in this form until she chooses a new one. A change in form can not be dispelled. A True Seeing spell or ability reveals her natural form. Use of this ability grants Envy a +10 bonus to disguise checks (not figured into the bonuses above). Lifeleech Aura (su) : Whenever a spell or spell-like ability with the healing descriptor is used on a creature within 60 ft. of Envy, Envy gains the benefit of the spell as if she too had been a target. If such a spell would grant Envy enough hp to exceed her full normal total, she gains the remaining hp as temporary hp. Temporary hp gained in this manner last for one hour. This ability applies to spell completion and spell trigger items (such as scrolls, staffs, and wands) but not other magic items. Spell Siphon (su): Envy exerts a strange pull on arcane spell energy. Any time an arcane spellcaster begins his turn within 60 ft. of Envy, he must make a DC25 fortitude save or lose a random spell of the highest spell level he has available. For every spell lost in this manner, Envy gains temporary hit points equal to 5 x spell level of the lost spell. These temporary hit points last for 1 hour. Line of effect between Envy and the Arcane spellcaster is necessary for this ability to work. The Save DC is Cha based. Skills: Envy has a +8 racial bonus on diplomacy checks and a +10 racial bonus on Intimidate checks. I want to include a Charisma damage or drain special attack, but I am unsure of how much damage/drain would be appropriate. Cloak of Hate can be found in Heroes of Horror crown of Glory can be found in the Draconomicon Envy is the last of the seven that will have the Change Shape ability. |
