| Mr.Atheist01-07-07, 02:24 AM | Hello all. Starting a new campaign soon, and was hoping to get some opinions on who should be the BBEG. The plot is disguised to look as a bunch of unrelated smaller adventures, but all things have one thing in common, a sort of seed. . . of evil. *cheesy laugh* Anyway, the BBEG (or his underling) would travel from town to town, usually distributing one seed per town, into an unsuspecting inhabitant. Aside from casual monitoring, the seed-planter rarely interacts with those it has effected after the seed is in place. The seeds are the main point of it all. They are planted in a needy person, and want to do nothing but fulfill their host's deepest desire, but in the most evil way possible. The seeds have a very powerful and versatile potential, and effect each person in a different way according to their desire. Example: A little girl has an overprotective father that does no let her play with other children. The girl is direly envious of the other children. When she gets a seed, she contracts lycanthropy. The children in town start mysteriously dying in wild-animal attacks. Another Example: The undertaker passes away, and another man is put in charge of the duty. This other man, an extremely lazy and obese banker, wants no part in digging holes, and procrastinates and curses the dead. He gets a seed. Suddenly, his duties go missing, and he's not sure how. Fine by him, he needs a nap anyway. Meanwhile, a nearby settlement is attacked by undead. I hope that gets the point across about the seeds. I'm mainly looking for a mastermind behind it all. Who would want random people to have their desires fulfilled; only to have them hurt others, regret it, or become evil? I was thinking a devil, seeing as it's a lawful evil thing to fulfill someone's wish the wrong way. If nothing else can be thought of, I might just go with some crazed gnome. Some ideas derived from The Monkey's Paw, Resident Evil 4, and the seven deadly sins; though sparingly. So, if you have any ideas, please share! I thank you in advance. |
| TheCrawlingSpleen01-07-07, 04:21 AM | While granting someone's wishes the wrong way is almost certainly lawful evil, it would seem that the seeds unleash not only evil, but a fair amount of chaos (town besieged by undead; children killed by lycanthrope), and this is the calling card of a demon, perhaps a glabrezu (Monster Manual), as they use the giving of power as their tool of corruption. If you want to go for an uber-powerful villain, the demon prince Pazuzu (Fiendish Codex I) has a penchant for providing "aid" to those who call upon him , which is similar to your wish-granter. Hope something in there helps! :) |
| Mr.Atheist01-07-07, 12:32 PM | Thank you! Your view on the seed's alignment was insightful. I don't have the fiendish codex, but I will look up the Glabrezu. Keep the ideas coming :D |
| LivingShadow01-07-07, 01:00 PM | It is in the monster manual. |
| Mr.Atheist01-07-07, 03:30 PM | Yes, I know. I was implying I'd look up the Glabrezu in the monster manual. I meant that I didn't have the fiendish codex, so I can't look up Pazuzu. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I looked up the Glabrezu. He sounds like a near-perfect fit. The MM says little about him though, and the BoVD doesn't even mention him, very strange. More ideas are welcome, keep them coming. |
| Richmud01-07-07, 04:08 PM | If you do go with this being a demon plan (especially appropriate if there is no rhyme or reason towards who gets the seeds or which towns) a group of succubi with their shapeshifting powers would be appropriate as seed planters |
| Mr.Atheist01-07-07, 04:51 PM | I agree. I suppose a Glabrezu would have a few Succubi at his disposal. They would be doing more espionage than anything else (which they are good at, according to MM), and not the seductive route. Seduction would help them get out of tight spots though. Thanks. |
