| Kohdok05-31-06, 08:43 PM | Okay. What I'm creating here is a list of monsters based on the game Resident Evil. I'm going to make a compendium of them. Here's a couple to whet your appetite. The Hunter could still use some work, if anybody wants to make some suggestions. http://www.residentevilfan.ws/largeimages/gallery/zombie2_lg.gif T-Virus Zombie (Template) The T-virus zombie template is similar to the zombie template in many ways. There are, however, several differences. Weapon Proficiencies and natural attacks: A T-Virus Zombie is not proficient with any weapon and replaces its natural slam attack with a bite attack. The attack does the same amount of damage. Feats: Along with Toughness, a T-Virus Zombie gains the Improved Grapple Feat. T-Virus (Su): Disease-Bite, Fortitude DC 21 one save only, incubation period 2d3 hours, damage 1d4 INT every hour with no save. An inflicted humanoid becomes a T-Virus zombie after their INT falls to 0. Turning immunity: A T-virus zombie is immune to turning. Tactics: Unlike normal zombies, T-virus zombies serve no master but their own remaining instinct: Hunger. These creatures will head towards any living creature they can find with absolutely no regard for their own safety and attempt to eat it, pinning it to the ground if they need to before biting at the neck of their victim. They prefer eating living things over dead and tend to move from victim to victim, eating while they still have a pulse, then moving on. CR: +1 http://www.residentevilfan.ws/largeimages/gallery/zerohunter3_lg.jpg Through the door bursts a feral, stooped, reptilian monster. Its long arms end in huge, deadly sharp talons strong enough to cut through bone. However, despite its beastly shell, a glimmer of near-human intelligence and cunning is clearly visible in its eyes. Hunter Medium Monstrous Humanoid(Reptilian) Hit Dice: 4d8+12 (30 HP) Initiative: +2 Speed:40 feet Armor Class: 19 (+2 Dex, +7 Natural) Base Attack/Grapple: +4/+7 Attack: Bite +7 Melee (1d6 +4) Full Attack: Bite +7 Melee(1d6 +4) and 2 claws +5 Melee (1d6 +3) Space/Reach:5ft./5ft. Special Attacks: Vorpal Claws Special Qualities:Darkvision 60 Saves: Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +4 Abilities:Str 16; Dex 15; Con 17; Int 7; Wis 10; Cha 10 Skills:Climb +8 Feats: Combat Reflexes, Multiattack Environment: Swamps; forests; large, creepy mansions. Organization: Solitary or Pack (2-5) Challenge Rating: 3 Treasure: None Alignment: Always Chaotic Neutral Advancement: Level Adjustment:- Vorpal Slash(Ex): If a Hunter makes a natural 20 when checking to confirm a critical hit when attacking with its claws, the victim is automatically killed as if it was hit with the Vorpal ability. Tactics: Hunters are driven by animalistic instinct and are fueled by a near-human intelligence that allows them to use their bodies to great tactical effect. They are strong enough to pry a door from its hinges, and smart enough to operate a doorknob. They'll do either, depending on how they are feeling. They often try to corner their opponents, or leap by as a charge to rake enemies with their claws while also moving clear of danger. They will use their full attack as a counterattack if they are struck. |
| Angelflesh05-31-06, 10:50 PM | Interesting, i was thinking of statting out the monsters from Resident Evil 4 and Dino Crisis 3 or creating them through means of templates and variants. Keep on keepin' on. I think a Bandersnatch would be cool, and definately the Neptune. |

Turning immunity: A T-virus zombie is immune to turning. CR: +1 Ok, seriously, incubation period 2d4 days? Nooo noooo noooo... 2d4 hours? Maybe, maybe even less. And a person who is bitten (and doesn't make their save), unless they get a vacine, WILL become a Zombie. At it's current stage it's barely worth the CR +1. If you update the T-Virus (to be more accurate and powerful) the CR +1 will be justified. http://www.residentevilfan.ws/largeimages/gallery/zerohunter3_lg.jpg Now here's a good point to this whole thing, your posting pictures. Good good idea. This creature looks vaguely human and very reptilian with a crouched posture and large, sharp claws. This description can definitly be improved on (as DM's might not always have this picture to show the players), though it's not a MAGOR problem, just something to think about. Hunter Medium Monstrous Humanoid Hit Dice: 4d8+12 (32 HP) 30 HP, not 32. (4.5x4)+12=30 Initiative: +2 Speed:40 feet Armor Class: 19 (+2 Dex, +7 Natural) Base Attack/Grapple: +4/+7 Attack: Claw +7 Melee (1d6+3) Full Attack:Claw x2 +7 Melee(1d6+3), Bite +7 Melee(1d6 +3) Unless this creature has multi-attack, this creature will get a -5 penalties on all attacks while using his full-attack (as he is using multiple limbs). Space/Reach:5ft./5ft. Special Attacks: Vorpal Claws Special Qualities:Darkvision 60 Saves: Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +4 Abilities:Str 16; Dex 15; Con 17; Int 7; Wis 10; Cha 10 Skills:Climb +8 Feats: Combat Reflexes, Dodge Environment: Swamps; forests; large, creepy mansions. The rest is pretty good, though I might have to say that it might be just pushing CR3... maybe CR2? |

I guess I could go with the RE2/3/Outbreak rate of change version instead of the one in RE1 where they're writing diary entries for a few days perfectly fine. (Until just before Itchy/Tasty.) So maybe: Incubation 2d3 hours. Fort save DC 21 one save only. The victim suffers 1d4 INT damage every hour. Upon reaching 0 int, the victim becomes a T-Virus Zombie. Now here's a good point to this whole thing, your posting pictures. Good good idea. It always did seem like one. :D This description can definitly be improved on (as DM's might not always have this picture to show the players), though it's not a MAGOR problem, just something to think about. I was plodding along fine until my dad wanted to do something so I got rushed. I'll fix it a little later. I know I can do better than this. 30 HP, not 32. (4.5x4)+12=30 Ah. I went with 5 insteaad of 4.5 I was lazy this time. Unless this creature has multi-attack, this creature will get a -5 penalties on all attacks while using his full-attack (as he is using multiple limbs). Again, lazy. I also haven't been on here in a while. The rest is pretty good, though I might have to say that it might be just pushing CR3... maybe CR2? I suppose so. I'm hoping to make it a bit more flavorful with a couple more abilites, but yeah. All I can say is that "G" will be far more complicated. Don't expect me to make stats for the virus, itself. Thank god it doesn't transmit that way or I'd take days designing it. I guess I'll do the Chimera and Licker next time. Thanks for the critique! Anybody have any hit-dice suggestions for any of the monsters? It's really all I'm having trouble with |
| pileobone06-01-06, 01:42 AM | Unless this creature has multi-attack, this creature will get a -5 penalties on all attacks while using his full-attack (as he is using multiple limbs). Not true. Only the creatures secondary attacks are at a -5. And with multiattack it becomes a -2. And dont' forget, secondary attacks only get half Strength. Attack: Claw +7 Melee (1d6+3), or Bite +7 Melee (1d6 +3) Full Attack:Claw x2 +5 Melee(1d6+3), Bite +5 Melee(1d6 +3)I would suggest just making his bite attack his primary, and give it Str and a half as such. Doing that will make his attack look something like: Attack: Bite +7 melee (1d6+4) Full Attack: Bite +7 melee (1d6+4) and 2 Claws +5 melee (1d6+1) Abilities:Str 16; Dex 15; Con 17; Int 7; Wis 10; Cha 10Not sure If i would consider a 16 Str strong enough to "pry a door from its hinges". He could manage it up to a Strong Wooden door, where he would need a natural 20, and hope that it's not locked :P Vorpal Slash: If a Hunter makes a natural 20 when checking to confirm a critical hit when attacking with its claws, the victim is automatically killed as if it was hit with the Vorpal ability.Ow! You sure you want to give a CR 3 monster an insta-kill like this? If so, at least please note whether this is an Extraordinary(Ex) or Supernatural(Su) ability. Personally though, I would just go with an increased threat range, as opposed to an instant pk. |
| Kohdok06-01-06, 06:09 PM | Ow! You sure you want to give a CR 3 monster an insta-kill like this? If so, at least please note whether this is an Extraordinary(Ex) or Supernatural(Su) ability. Personally though, I would just go with an increased threat range, as opposed to an instant pk. I'm trying to base it on how the one in the game works and hunters, I can assure you, can take off your head in a single blow (Ever try "Hard mode" in the REmake?) I'll make it Extraordinary. If you want something nasty, wait 'til I get to the Nemesis! Edit: But, for now, you'll have to be happy with the original Tyrant: http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/wp-content/renemy4.png Tyrant-002 Large Abberation Hit Dice: 12d8+60 (114hp) Speed: 50 feet Armor class: 16 (-1 size;+7 Natural) Base Attack/Grapple: +8/+19 Attack: Claw +14 Melee (2d6+10 and T-Virus) Full Attack: Claw +14 Melee (2d6+10 and T-Virus) Space/Reach: 10ft./10ft. Special Attacks: None Special Qualities: Darkvision 60; Fast Healing 5; DR 5/-; Spell Resistance 10. Saves: Fort +9; Ref +4; Will +8 Abilities: Str: 25; Dex: 10; Con 20; Int 10; Wis 11; Cha 9 Skills: Spot +15; Jump +22 Feats: Power Attack; Improved Bull Rush; Awesome Blow; Blind-Fight; Combat Reflexes. Environment: Large, scary mansions. Organization: Single Challenge Rating: (Suggestions?) Treasure:None Alignment:Always Chaotic Evil From out of the darkness stalks what once might have been human. This lipless abomination's skin is covered with bumps and blood vessels that coalesce around a greatly oversized heart that protrudes from its chest. One of its arms has lengthened to several feet long and each of its fingernails have been replaced by claws the size of sabers. tactics: This is based on the Tyrant, 2nd form, when it is at its peak. I figure the 1st form has stats for being fatigued or exhausted. This form of the Tyrant picks one victim and charges him/her/it, swiping it with its claw and sending them flying with an Awesome Blow. It might attack twice if it is close to its foe (Does its base attack bonus allow multiple attacks?) |
