Ok we had a situation come up with a Giant Crab (huge sized) this weekend. A Giant Crab with a +22 Grapple check grabs our Dragon Disciple and starts to squeeze. Next round it starts attacking the other party members but fails to grapple anyone because of the -20 for maintaining the grapple on the Dragon Disciple. Our Goliath Barbarian decides to jump on the crab and try and free the Dragon Disciple. So he jumps on and wins his grapple check and is now grappling the Giant Crab. The DM next turn attacks the barbarian with his other claw and then says he gets a grapple check, I say no your already grappled. The DM thinks that Improved grab let's him grapple and contrict the barbarian who's already got him grappled. We argue and I lose but the barbarian beats the grapple check anyways. Next same round the Dragon Disciple breaks the hold and falls away into the water. The Barbarain wins his next graple check and pins the Giant Crab. Since the rest of the party has been pounding on it it falls unconscious and and we kill it. I still don't believe the crab could grapple someone grappling it already. What do you guys think?

Seems workable in my mind. The guys grabbing the crab and it just tries to pull off and crush him.

The improved grab ability works for holding the dragon disciple (which it's holding in one claw), but because the barbarian is grappling it separately, it is considered to be in a grapple and cannot make typical melee attacks against him.

It can, however, make attacks against the barbarian as described for grappling (taking a -4 penalty to the attack), and deals constrict damage on successful grapple checks. This is the equivalent of it trying to pull him off.
