also is there a 3.5 or 3.0 update for the wolf in sheeps clothing?

07-10-07, 12:07 PM The Flumph was a rather silly monster from the original Fiend Folio for first edition D&D. It was updated to 3.5 in one of the Dungeon magazines (issue 118).

silly? SILLY!? Calling the mighty and noble Flumph SILLY is deeply insulting to all of flumph kind an those of us who LOVE running them in their game. Everybody from "back in the day" such as myself , knows that flumphs aren't silly, they're completely+ utterly ridiculous! Get it right child!

yes but I just read the Flumphinomicon and I now LOVE the flomph I can promis any of my players that read this that at the very least the flumph will now take the place of the BONE-CHICKENS!!! monst situatoins.

Enworld is a very good site. They have converted a lot of monsters and it's a work in progress. It is definitely a site worth bookmarking. Note that many conversions are 3.0 not 3.5 but they generally only need minor tweaking.

Apparently it is in the Tome of Horrors, by Necromancer games. It is completely OGL material. If you search around google you can find the revised (3.5) Tome of Horrors. It's $9.99 from RPGNow for example.

The Wolf-in-Sheep's-Clothing was from the 1st ed. MM 2 and it too has been converted in the revised Tome of Horrors. Page 372 to be exact.

Here's the description of the wolf-in-sheep's clothing:

"Before you stands a grayish-brown tree stump about 3-4 feet in diameter. Sitting atop the tree stump is a small white-furred rabbit.

The wolf-in-sheep’s clothing is perhaps the single strangest monster sages have cataloged to date. It appears as a gray-brown tree stump about 3-4 feet in diameter.

Two 10-foot long eyestalks protrude from the creature’s base. Each eyestalk is brownish-green in color and is topped by a violet flower-like eye. Seven to ten root
tentacles, black-brown in color, give the monster its means of locomotion. Its mouth is located on its trunk-like body and appears to be nothing more than a deep scar, except when the creature opens it. The mouth is lined with razor-sharp and jagged greenish-white teeth. Its strangest and perhaps deadliest characteristic is its ability to “sprout” a growth on its top that resembles a small furry animal (such as a rabbit or squirrel). The wolf-in-sheep’s clothing uses this ability to lure in its prey, when it strikes with deadly force and aim."

Yep folks -- it's a tree stump with a bunny on it that grabs you and eats you. Pardon me while I pick myself up from the floor after I've stopped laughing.

Tome of Horrors is one of my favorite monster books. I've enjoyed it far more than I've enjoyed some of the more recent books that WotC has put on market. It is also one of the BIGGEST monster books (451 pages and at the price of $9.99 you really can't beat it). It's all OGL.

The only thing bad is that the Table of Contents is worthless as it doesn't list monsters by page and there is no index in the back. [Boo-hiss] On the other hand, most of the monsters are listed alphabetically. It's a bit annoying because the appendices aren't listed so you have to look to see which monsters show up there.
