Aasimar w/o LA? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-19-04, 10:09 PM I'm running a campaign where everyone rolls randomly for their race and stats. One of my PCs got Aasimar. Any ideas on how I could tweak the Aasimar to the point that the LA isn't necessary?

06-20-04, 12:10 AM Sounds like a flavor-thing. I sometimes find it fun not to know what I'm playing as.

Anyway, no, there's no point in reducing it's LA. Just make him a human instead?

Take a look at this Savage Progressions article:

Savage Progressions : Level Adjusted Races (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a)

It breaks down races like Aasimar and drow down to basic abilities for the race equal to any +0 level adjusted race. Then the rest of the abilities can be taken by gaining levels in the racial class. The article explains it better than I can.

06-20-04, 03:54 AM There is a optional rule in Unearthed Arcana for getting rid of level adjustments. At a certain point depending on your LA, you pay an experience point cost to drop your level adjustment. While it seems like a bum deal at first, in the long haul it is definately worth it. This assumes the DM allows it, of course.

In the case of a +1 Level Adjustment, immediately upon gaining your 3rd class level (ECL 4), you pay 3,000 exp and drop the +1 Level Adjustment. So a 3rd level Aasimar would have around 6,000 exp, pays the 3,000 exp and drops to about 3,000 exp, but is now a 3rd level character with no Level Adjustment. While his compainions probably have 10,000 or so exp, the experience point award system will correct for this over time (he'll get more for each encounter then his higher level party members) and he will more or less catch up to his companions in time.
