What are the preferred aberrations, by size and hit dice, for wild shaping into (using the ability granted by the Aberration Wild Shape feat or Master of Many Forms class abilities, for example), excluding templated creatures (spellwarped, half-illithid, etc.)?

Of the available choices, my two favorites at the moment are the mimic and the will-o'-the-wisp, but other prime old-school contenders include the gibbering mouther, grell, and rust monster. Among the newer critters, symbionts seem a tasty choice for boosting your allies or hiding out amid your enemies.

Edit: *fwaps self* I didn't read carefully enough. >.<; I'm just now seeing the mentioned feat.

Yeah, there actually is a feat for this from Lords of Madness, Aberration Wild Shape (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Aberration_Wild_Shape,LoM)

Remember though that you can use 'only' the extraordinary attacks. You do not gain the creature's special qualities or supernatural anything.

Hence the question. While it may be fun to turn into a guath so you can fly (extraordinary ability), you're only going to be Bluffing someone with the eyerays. Several aberrations do have useful - and unusual - extraordinary abilities, however.

Pfft, gauth nothing. Go full-on beholder and take Assume Supernatural Ability (eye ray of your choice, or the antimagic cone). Or go full-on beholder, don't even bother with Assume Supernatural Ability, cite the rules that temporarily meeting a requisite for a PrC can get you in (though when the requisite is gone, the class abilities suppress), and start taking Beholder Mage levels. :behold:

<sigh> Focus. Besides, you should totally wait to do that with a Gibberring Orb or Neh-Thalggu.

You could disguise yourself as a synad or an elan, for example.
