| Titanic Ego05-18-05, 06:10 PM | A newborn aboleth has all the memories of its ancestors, correct? So what happens when an aboleth savant reproduces? If it keeps class levels then I would expect all existing aboleth to be archmages, since archmages should find it much easier to defend themselves and would gradually fill out the population over the millions of years of aboleth history. This makes it virtually impossible to have non-epic aboleth. But suppose newborn aboleth can inherit wizard levels. They will still be small and physically weak, so what happens to their HD and the physical attributes from levels? Likewise for psionic aboleth, since it is possible to gain an extra power for only 5000 xp (psychic chirurgery I believe) wouldn't psionic aboleth have gradually accumulated all psionic powers over the ages? The same goes for the illithid elder brains, which contain the brains of illithids who separately knew probably every power in existence, but the brain as a whole only commands the power selection of a 20th level psion |

There is a feat in Lords of Madness that lets aboleth remember the knowledge from their prey and to make untrained checks on any area of knowledge, but with millions of years of experience I would want to define some sort of special bonuses in Knowledge skills. |

Well exactly how useful is information from the dinosaur age or earlier? I say keep it simple. If you feel the need to expand on Aboleth ancestral knowledge, you can show it by devoting the creature's skills to knowledge. If you want to expand even more, give it a Prestige class similar to the Emancipated Spawn from Savage Species and work it to give better skills instead of Turn Resistance. |
| Enslaved DM05-20-05, 03:02 AM | The Savant class works quite well for powering up Aboleths with their ancestral memories. |
