| zargonic03-06-04, 05:46 PM | As always, I appreciate greatly when people give me input on my creations. The math on this one should be worked out correctly. This really will give the PC's a headache Absummachina Large Construct Hit Dice: 20d10+30 (150 HP) Initiative: +3 (dex) Speed: 40ft AC: 31 (+2 dex, -1 size, +10 natural, +10 deflection) Attacks: +35/+35/+30/+25 +4 Shocking burst longsword of speed Damage: 2d6+20+1d6 lightning longsword, 18-20 x2 critical Face/Reach: 10ft/10ft Special Attacks: Absummatung, Diverberatung, Genocleave Special Qualities: Arcanium Armor, Construct traits, DR 15/adamantine, Fire and Lightning absorption, Host Soul, Levitation Stones, Spell Immunity, Weapon Attunement Saves: Fort +6, Ref +8, Will +8 Abilities: Str 43, Dex 15, Con -, Int 17, Wis 15, Cha 12 Skills: - Feats: Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Improved Overrun, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Critical (weapon) Environment: anywhere Organization: solitary, squad (3-5), or legion (6+ accompanied by living beings) Challenge Rating: 17 Treasure: none Alignment: always neutral Advancement: 20- 30 HD (Large), 30+ (huge) Level Adjustment: - Absummachina are giant constructs that are incredibly feared by many. They are giant machines capable of causing much death and destruction. They are actually intelligent constructs, having been imbued with a portion of the creator’s intelligence. They are surprisingly often used to guard religious temples because of their ability to strike multiple foes of the opposing alignment at the same time. In this case, they usually are imbued with the spirit of a cleric that has willingly devoted his life to guarding his temple. The Absummachina are very hard to create, and thankfully so, as their destructive power is almost unrivalled. They appear in many shapes or forms, but are usually humanoid. They are usually about 10 feet tall and weigh around 10,000 pounds, making the ground tremble as they walk. They usually carry an ornate longsword with embedded emeralds, but are occasionally equipped with other equipment (for example, if it guards a temple to Pelor, it would carry a mace) COMBAT Absummachina will fearlessly wade into combat in order to complete its mission, usually eliminating a group of targets. They will use their genocleave and absummatung mercilessly to strike at all their targets mercilessly. If faced with a large number of foes, it will attune its weapon to a trait common to all of them and then dispatch them all as quickly as possible. As they are intelligent, they are capable of tactics and know when to flee or use diplomacy. Absummatung (ex): When the Absummachina downs an opponent, it may activate Abummatung. A green arc of energy shoots out from it’s weapon, and this allows it immediately to make an attack versus all creatures within 30 feet of a chosen category shared by the creature it just killed. The categories include: same number of hit die, same creature type (construct, undead, magical beast, etc except for humaniod and outsider), same caster level (arcane, divine, and spell- like abilities are counted for this), same race, same religion, and same subtype. The Absummachina are completely immune to this attack and made by either themselves or other Absummachina. Diverberatung (ex): The most feared ability of the Absummachina is the Diverberatung. It functions just the same way that an Absummatung does, but instead all beings of the same category (see above for possible categories) must make a save DC 31 vs Death (dc calculated is 20+half HD+cha mod). This ability may be used only once per day. Genocleave (ex): A smaller version of it’s other feared abilities, the Absummatung may use this every time it attacks. It’s weapon arcs green energy to a single other creature of the same category (see above for possible categories). If the the result of the attack versus the original creature was successful, the Absummachina makes a separate attack at the same BAB versus the second creature as a free action. Arcanium Armor (ex): All Absummachina must be made of Arcanium, a rare substance found only deep within the Elemental plane of Earth. This substance is able to store many mental qualities, which allows the Absummachina to have an intelligence. It also stores spells very well. Every time the Absummachina is struck, a spell triggers targeting the attacker, with caster level 20 and spell level equal to the weapon’s enhancement bonus. Due to the tremendous amount of arcanium needed to store spells of a high level this way, the Absummachina only has one spell of each levels 0-9 (spells determined during creation). The arcanium also provides a +1 deflection AC bonus for every 1000 lbs in a large mass (in this case, +10). Fire and Lightning Absoption (ex): The Absummachina is able to convert heat and light into energy it can readily use. For each 3 fire or lightning damage that it would normally be dealt by some effect, it instead heals 1 hit point of damage. Any hit points that would be gained beyond maximum are gained a temporary HP. Host Soul (ex): The Absummachina is able to allow any one willing soul to inhabit it. In this case, the soul animates the armor, and is able to recall all class abilities. The physical scores of the machine are used, while the metal scores of the soul are used. While inside the Absummachina, the hosted soul may project an image of itself anywhere within 20 feet of the machine. While the image is unable to manipulate the surroundings in any way, it looks like the soul did in life, and is able to communicate in any languages it knew in life. If not hosting a soul, the machine is able to project an image of a generic member of any race, and communicates in common. Levitation Stones (su): Several crystals imbedded in the legs of the machine allow it to hover while kneeling. This kneeling stance allows it to fly at a speed of 40 feet at perfect maneuverability, but only horizontally. It is able to rise and descend, but only at a maximum speed of 20 ft per round (this may be done in conjunction with horizontal movement), and only allows a maximum altitude of 40 feet off of any surface wide enough to support it. (This allows the machine to enter spaces where it would cause the floor to collapse). Switching from normal walking to levitating is a standard action. Spell Immunity: the Absummachina is immune to all spells of the evocation school except for those that involve [fire] or [electricity] descriptors. Furthermore, due to a quirk in the nature of arcanium, a spell with the [cold] descriptor will put the contstruct under the effects of a slow spell for a number of round equal to it's spell level (but have no other effects). Weapons Attunement (Ex): Whenever the machine strikes an opponent and kills them, It is able to make it’s weapon attune to the creature’s essence. This allows it to strike all others within the same categories (see above in Absummatung for all possible categories) with greater accuracy, duplicating the effects of a true strike spell, except that the bonus is only a +2 to hit. Only one soul may be attuned to at once, but the attunement is indefinite until the machine chooses to dismiss the attunement or acquire a new one. |

| Vanigo03-07-04, 05:16 PM | Originally posted by zargonic Special Qualities: Arcanium Armor, Construct traits, DR 35/epic, Fire and Lightning absorption, Host Soul, Levitation Stones, Spell Immunity, Weapon Attunement Way the hell too much DR. Only the strongest dragons have DR higher than 15/whatever, and they're around CR 25+, and it's relatively worthless 20/magic. Also, you need to elaborate on spell immunity. Is it immunity to all spells, or just some? Challenge Rating: 17 Way too low. As written, I'd put this thing around CR 27. Mostly because its absurd DR and spell immunity make it nearly impossible to damage, though, so if you lower the DR to something sane (like 15/adamantium) and change the spell immunity to moderately high SR, it might be okay. Genocleave (ex): A smaller version of it’s other feared abilities, the Absummatung may use this every time it attacks. It’s weapon arcs green energy to a single other creature of the same category (see above for possible categories). No matter what the result of the attack versus the original creature was, the Absummachina makes a separate attack at the same BAB versus the second creature as a free action. Is this every time it attacks, or every time it hits? It's probably too powerful, if it's the former. Also, all these abilities need to exclude alignment and the types Humanoid and Outsider. Those are too general. The arcanium also provides a +1 deflection AC bonus for every 1000 lbs in a large mass (in this case, +10).Yikes. This is potent. Weapons Attunement (Ex): Whenever the machine strikes an opponent and kills them, It is able to make it’s weapon attune to the creature’s essence. This allows it to strike all others within the same categories (see above in Absummatung for all possible categories) with greater accuracy, duplicating the effects of a true strike spell. Only one soul may be attuned to at once, but the attunement is indefinite until the machine chooses to dismiss the attunement or acquire a new one. Constant true strike is almost always a bad idea. This doesn't seem like an exception to me. |
| BrianMc22303-13-04, 10:07 PM | + 4 Dancing vorpal Shocking burst longsword of speed +4/+4/+5/+2/+3= +17!!! Not only is that insane, it isn't even allowable in the rules........ |
| zargonic03-13-04, 10:23 PM | Mmm hmmm thank you everybody I forgot to check this thread for a while.... sorry about that... I actually drew most of these conclusions by myself while looking over the machine again and while looking over other constructs,.... therefore I will change all this considering what everyone's been saying.... hope you all will like the new machine. BTW brian i recalculated it's a +18 weapon. |
