Ok ... i was preparing an adventure for a pc... i decided to bring upon him an abyssal skulker... I had the minis, i had MM2, it looked good, until i noticed the stats.
It does 1d2 dmg??? wtf?? A CR 1/4 goblin can deal way more dmg!!! and is not CR 2 creature...
I dont know if this had been brough on the forums.. but it is a big mistake... i dont see the reason to be a CR 2 since abyssal maw can do 2d8+4 insted 1d2 (with the same CR)!!

I couldnt resist than to notice that at the forums...

PS. I was looking for corrections at errata or WE but i didnt found any...
I hope at least a review

The demons in the MMII are the worst example of the CR syndrome (some people say that the clockwork horrors are worse, but I disagree).

A while ago, I used both of those demons in a low level dungeon. The PC's waded through wave after wave of skulkers, getting experience they didn't deserve, and one maw, which was not supposed to be a challenge, killed the fighter in a single round (I had to fudge a die roll to keep him barely alive).

The abyssal maw is possibly the single most broken creature I have ever had the lack of common sense to use. The CR has nothing to do with it; its just that having a monster, especially an ambushy type monster, that automatically kills you when you reach 0 hp is a humongously bad idea.

Solution? Reduce the skulker's CR to 1/3. Don't use the maw.
