Acceptable paladin mounts [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-06-05, 05:24 PM I'm about to run a level 10 paladin/10 platinum knight/6 monk character and was wondering about a mount that I wanted to use. Would an asperi be an acceptable mount? I know they're NG, but would that really matter? After my question, this thread should stand for questionable paladin mounts. (If there is such a thread already, I apologize).

11-06-05, 06:08 PM I actually don't think that the mount's original alignment makes a difference, given a Warhorse is naturally TN. I can't remember where asperi is from, so I couldn't tell ya if that'll be acceptable.

11-06-05, 06:17 PM Asperi are in Monster Manual II. The only real reason I prefer it is because it can fly and has a higher hit die than warhorses (I'm epic, so it would need more hit points).

11-06-05, 07:17 PM There are many options for flying mounts, pegasi, griffin, hypogriff, wyvern, dragon, dragonne, lammasu... as long as the alignment isn't chaotic or evil, it shouldn't matter.

You can probably get an advanced version as well, but since it's stats should increase with your level (3.5), it also shouldn't matter that it's a standard warhorse, yes?

11-06-05, 07:41 PM Well it does matter. Asperi get 4d10 hit die, while heavy warhorses get 4d8. But with my paladin levels, it's 8d10. While there's not much of a gap between d8 and d10, after 8 hit die, the gap is more noticable. And because its flying in a supernatural way, it shouldn't be hindered by my weight.

11-06-05, 10:10 PM Try getting a mage or cleric to craft magical items for it that increase it ability scores. A saddle of giant strength and/or constitution or bridle of dexterity. Horseshoes (or whatever the equivalent for this creature would be) of speed, etc. Wing "anklets" of protection. Be creative.

11-06-05, 10:18 PM Having looked at its entry, I'd say it could be the equivalent of, maybe, a 7th or 8th level Paladin's mount. That's my guess.
