Simple question/challenge. I want to legally give a monster reach. It's long and medium so unless I want to augment it to huge that's not going to work.

Are there any feats or classes or templates that easily give reach without a massive increase in CR.
And I'm really only interested in natural reach, not weapons. So no spiked chaing suggestion....

Any ideas?

Well, the choker (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/choker.htm) has something similar. It's a small aberation with a reach of 10 feet. If you're creating a monster from scratch (or making some wierd mutant varient), then just increase its reach.

Now if you're looking for a way to give an existing monster reach without creating a new one, the first thing that comes to mind is a deformity feat from Heroes of Horror (forgot the name) that gives you reach. Basically, the idea is you've stretched yourself on a rack for a long time, and you've grown tall (long) enough to gain reach, but your size doesn't increase.

Hope that helps ;)

There are also the aberration feats in Lords of Madness. Aberration Blood will give you a skill boost which you can then follow with Inhuman Reach.

A specific natural attack or an increase in Natural Reach? What monster/type?

Natural reach. I'm actually being a bit of a dick and looking for a way to give a rust monster reach.
The above feats, while good, won't work as one requires humanoid (rusty is already an aberration) and the other treats as large for purposes of reach which does nothing as the beastie is long and doesn't get reach until huge sized (and far out of the CR range I'm looking for).

I could just make it tougher (spellwarped from MMIII works nicely boosting the Con and with that the DC for its Special Attack which gets really scary with the ability to absorb spells for even more Con) but reach just seems that little extra bit of evil.

Savage Species has a feat called Extended Reach (pg 34) that gives +5 ft reach to attacks made with nonrigid appendages, and I'd say that a rust monster's antennae qualify.

P.S. I hate rust monsters, and a pox upon you for wanting to make them stronger.

Are you the DM? If you are, this isn't much of a problem; simply say it has a reach of 10 feet. If you're worried about the players complaining, add in a little extra stuff, add +1 to the CR, and give it a new name!
