In the Monsters of Faerun there are Diminuative constructs called Creeping Horrors. Basically they are the severed left hands of killed humanoids that have been animated.

In my miniature collection I have several old Games Workshop Creeping Claw familiars and I want to use them in an upcoming game as the severed hands of a clan of Hill Giants. The snag is that the Creeping Horror cannot be advanced as per the rules and they are the left hands of Medium sized creatures.

So, what would be a suitable way to make use of my idea and my models?

First, the monster advancement line refers to the normal maximum for that creature type. Exceptions can and do exist.

Second, if the rules get in the way, bend 'em. I would start by making the claws size Tiny (since they come from a Large creature instead of a Medium), using the size adjustments fom the MM. As for HD, only you can judge what you need. Give the whatever HD you think a hill giant's severed hand ought to have, making sure it's enough to challenge your PCs.

Cool idea, BTW

I would use the Creeping Claw like a template. Use the various Zombie or Skeleton templates out there as examples. Or just take what makes a Creeping Claw, a Creeping Claw and modify it accordingly.

Best way I think to do this, is simply increase its size accordingly, perhaps adding a one or two hit dice per size advancement.
