Also, if you advance an animal's HD, and it would normally gain an ability score increase due to HD being divisible by 4, are you not allowed to add to its intelligence? (Since animals aren't supposed to have more than 2 INT.) What if the animal is an animal companion? Do the bonus HD it gains count towards ability increases (I assume yes since they count towards feats and skill points)? Are you just not allowed to increase its INT to 3 but you can increase anything else, or does its type change to Magical Beast sub (augmented animal) or something if you do increase its INT? Thanks :)

Also, if you advance an animal's HD, and it would normally gain an ability score increase due to HD being divisible by 4, are you not allowed to add to its intelligence? (Since animals aren't supposed to have more than 2 INT.) If you increase the INT score of an animal to 3 or more, it gains the Magical Beast type and the Augmented Animal subtype. It will gain the additional traits of the Magical Beast type (60' darkvision, low-light vision), but will keep the features of the animal type (d8 HD, 3/4 BAB, 2+INT skill points, good ref and will saves). What if the animal is an animal companion? When an animal companion becomes a magical beast, it stops being your companion, but might still follow you as a cohort.
