Advancing by HD and Sp Abilities [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-18-05, 06:32 PM When you advance a monster by HD, does the caster level for its spell like abilities increase? (If so, I assume it is 1 to 1?)

Also, should I simply use an advanced Gauth against my level 10 party, or should I throw a Beholder in all its killer glory at them? :D

2. Sure, throw the beholder at them. Heck, why not throw six?

01-19-05, 05:44 AM Yes, caster level is proportional to hit die. Unless otherwise noted, a spell-like or supernatural ability has a caster level equal to a monster's hit die, so increasing the latter increases the former. If otherwise noted, I'd rule that the increase is scaled to proportion.
