| Babson9903-09-04, 01:11 PM | I'm looking for published adventures that climax with a battle with a dragon. Ideally the adventure should be designed for a party of level 14-17 or so. Anyone got any favorites from Dungeon Magazine, a D20 source, a .pdf, etc.? |
| Jagyr Ebonwood03-09-04, 01:43 PM | I haven't played (or even read) it, but the latest Free Adventure deals with not one but two dragons. Check it out here. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20040227a) |
| Babson9903-09-04, 03:25 PM | Excellent, thanks. Others? |
| Derren S.03-09-04, 03:39 PM | Bastion of Broken Souls. But it is higher in level than what you have in mind (18+) |
| gradea03-09-04, 03:41 PM | i had actually made one myself, it boils down to a dragon with the fire subtype sneaking fire elemental type creatures into dwarven mines, melting thier gold and sliping it through cracks in the ground down to his secret underground base (not his lair, were he has something (possibly slaves) re forge the gold (possibly even some captured dwarves). thiers more to it then that, but use the right minions, right hooks, right dragon (throw in a second dragon with the earth type if you want) and youd have the adventure |
| Talmar03-10-04, 08:54 AM | I don't know what dungeon magazine number it is but I am converting one called "Glacier Season" into Epic Realms. There are 1/2 dragons, evil wizards, cool ice golems, frost giants and mastadons all culminating in the final battle with a white dragon. I personally have done heavy modification to it to bring it up to a level 21 adventure but I believe it's written for 15th or 16th level. |
| Babson9903-12-04, 10:45 AM | I have in mind a battle with a green dragon set in a cave complex about 200 miles out to sea and 1000-2000 feet underwater. (Per the MM, greens can breathe water indefinitely; I figure a reclusive dragon would take advantage of that.) The party will know the setting, and will have time to commission/create helpful magic items. Still working on allies and challenges to be met en route. |
| BladeBoy03-12-04, 11:17 AM | Maybe Dragon Turtles want to stop them? Or, A village sea elves wants to stop them, for whatever reason. |
| wdarkk03-13-04, 04:25 PM | Sahuigan (can't spell it) would probably work better. |
| obrysii03-27-04, 03:17 PM | My own campaign will be ending with a Great Black Wyrm fighting the PC's along with his army. |
| howlingwolf03-27-04, 06:31 PM | General tips for the actual -scrap-, take examples from movies. - A dragon is big, and powerful at that level. Even if being careful around it's own hoard, a tail-swipe, or breath weapon is bound to smash something to bits. Make players grateful they survived when you describe how the bite they dodged just took a chunk out of the pillar behind them. :D Or how the breathweapon just blew a new door into the wall. That a elephant or five could use comfortably. - If underwater, I'd suggest emphasising the currents when the dragon moves. Or the fact they can still hear the dragon roaring quite clearly despite having lungs full with water. ( If you're one of those folk who attempted to shout at people underwater when a kid, you'll know how garbled things get. :) ) Or just have it flit around the locality and make utter fools of the PCs. If it gets bored with them, or is harrying them, nothing would be better than backstroking across the trench. Allies, you could go weird. Have 'normal' sealife speak like a disney flick. Or just make something colossal. ( Those mages and their senses of humour. Titanic sardine my ass.. ) might make PC's think twice about 'harmless' fishies. Plus provide some heart-attacks / Encounters. Then there is always the mage studying on the sea bottom. ( 'Twenty thousand leagues under the sea, and I STILL cannot study in peace!?' ) Possible ally / distraction / info :smirk: 11:30pm post. Apologies for any BS. |
| Babson9903-29-04, 03:41 PM | Thanks, howlingwolf. I like the point about emphasizing the damage caused by missed attacks. And BladeBoy, I like the dragon turtle idea. I was considering an aquatic beholder of some sort, based on an encounter in another campaign, but the party recently fought a normal one and I generally dislike save-or-die monsters anyway. Next question: Do you guys think that dragon CRs are generally accurate? |
