If you take away a pit fiend's spell-like abilities (and only its spell-like abilities) what would the new CR be?

Thanks!

This includes summon baatezu, yes?
I would say a strong 18 or a weak 19. It depends on how tactically smart both the pit fiend and its PC foes are.

Talisman,

Thanks for the reply :)

Actually, I'm going by the 3.0 Monster Manual, and in that source the Pit Fiends is a CR 16. As well, I'm leaving the Pit Fiend's summoning abilities intact; I'm only stripping it of the non-summoning type spells that it casts.

I am unaware of what the CR for the Pit Fiend is in the 3.5 Monster Manual; perhaps that's why I'm confused by your suggestion that it should be an 18 or a 19.

Ah.
3.5 pit fiend is CR 20 (and 18 HD). I certainly didn't mean that dropping its SLAs would increase its CR!

Let me dig out my 3.0 MM...there we go. I'd say a strong 14 or weak 15...a pit fiend is still a terror in melee, even without SLAs, especially with DR 25!

Here's (http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/MonstersD-De.rtf) the 3.5 pit fiend, in case you care.

Thanks Talisman!

That answer is just what I needed, and will help me create a perfect encounter for the PCs.

It still retains its ungodly AC of 40 and those 6 natural attacks. This alone makes it tricky to take on in combat. I agree with cr14-15. :)
