Ronsard101 10-24-04, 03:34 PM	From the monster manual.... Alternate Form (Su): A gold dragon can assume any animal or humanoid form of Medium size or smaller as a standard action three times per day. This ability functions as a polymorph spell cast on itself at its caster level, except that the dragon does not regain hit points for changing form and can only assume the form of an animal or humanoid. The dragon can remain in its animal or humanoid form until it chooses to assume a new one or return to its natural form. And from the PHB... Polymorph [...] The assumed form can’t have more Hit Dice than your caster level (or the subject’s HD, whichever is lower), to a maximum of 15 HD at 15th level. You can’t cause a subject to assume a form smaller than Fine, nor can you cause a subject to assume an incorporeal or gaseous form. The subject’s creature type and subtype (if any) change to match the new form. Upon changing, the subject regains lost hit points as if it had rested for a night . If slain, the subject reverts to its original form, though it remains dead. The subject gains the Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores of the new form but retains its own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. It also gains all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form but does not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form or any supernatural or spell-like abilities. Let's assume that a old dragon change into a human. The dragon has 39 STR and 25 DEX. If we follow the rules of polymorph, in human form, the dragon won't keep his STR and DEX score. What will be his score? A human can have from 3 to 18 at 1st level. And what if the dragon while in human form, gains level in a class. if he can assume human form at will, it's easy for him to be the local innkeeper or even work for the king. So he should gain level in a class. Any comments or idea? thanks, Ronsard
obrysii 10-24-04, 03:38 PM	You go by the standard. Standard humans have 10 strength, 10 dexterity, and 10 consitution, if I'm not mistaken. Also. A dragon can take class levels even if it has no alternate form. Any creature can, given it's Int is 3 or higher.

Correct me if i'm wrong but only a few type of creature can take classes. some monster improve by class, some by HD, and some by another means that i don't remeber now. (unless it was a 3.0 rules and now with 3.5, any creature can take a class?)

Wolf72 10-25-04, 10:32 AM	there's a feat for dragons in the draconomicon that lets shapechanged/polymorped/alternateformed beings (don't think it's limited to dragons) to have an increased str/dex ... not much I think it's +2 over average.

It's a spell called "Draconic Polymorph" that acts as Polymorph except it gives them +8 strength in their new forms.
