So i present new variant gargoyle!!! SAND GARGOYLE Medium Monstrous Humanoid (Earth) Hit Dice:4d8+19 (37 hp) Initiative: +2 Speed:40 ft. (8 squares), fly 60 ft. (average) Armor Class: 16 (+2 Dex, +4 natural), touch 12, flat-footed 14 Base Attack/Grapple: +4/+6 Attack: Claw +6 melee (1d4+2) Full Attack: 2 claws +6 melee (1d4+2) and bite +4 melee (1d6+1) and gore +4 melee (1d6+1) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. COMBAT Gargoyles either remain still, then suddenly attack, or dive onto their prey. A gargoyle’s natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. Sand Form (Sur): The Sand Gargoyle can become one whit the desert, turning into a sand storm. This is a Move Action Freeze (Ex): A gargoyle can hold itself so still it appears to be a statue. An observer must succeed on a DC 20 Spot check to notice the gargoyle is really alive. Skills: Gargoyles have a +2 racial bonus on Hide, Listen, and Spot checks. *The Hide bonus increases by +8 when a gargoyle is concealed against a background of sand. | Athanatos02-01-06, 05:53 PM | Wait, what? The only changes when it turns into sand form are a lack of natural weapons and special qualities, removal of land speed, and alteration of fly speed? They still have 15 STR even though they aren't able to manipulate aynthing? Odd... Anyway, this whole concept seems undeserving of its own creature. All you did was add one special ability that's very confusingly worded. As it is, the creature has no logical reason to turn into sand at all, unless it wants better fly maneuverability for some reason. And for that matter, why does the sand form have a fly speed? A land speed seems far more appropriate. I'd definitely suggest reworking the sand ability. Give it a reason for existing. Add in some rules about how it gains really awesome hide/ms bonuses while in sand form. Give it the Swarm rules for taking damage. Allow it to regenerate its wounds by spending time in sand form. Do something. |
