Dear Forum:

Tell me what you think of my alternate zombie template:

Zombie Template

The zombie template is in the MM on pages 265-266. Those rules apply except as modified here.

Proficiencies: A zombie loses all weapon and armor proficiencies and gains simple weapon proficiency.

Abilities: +2 strength; -6 dexterity; no constitution; no intelligence; wisdom = 10; charisma = 1.

Feats: A zombie loses all feats of the base creature and gains Toughness.

Zombies gain the following abilities:

Plodding (Ex): Zombies cannot run or charge.

Overwhelm (Ex): A zombie begins combat by trying to attack with its slam attack (or with a simple weapon if so armed). Each round thereafter there is a 1 in 3 chance that a zombie will being trying to grapple its opponents in lieu of its slam or simple weapon attacks (check at the beginning of each of its turns when it is in position to make an attack). Once a zombie changes tactics to grappling it will maintain that strategy for the rest of the encounter. Please note that attempting to start a grapple provokes an attack of opportunity.

Lethal Grab (Ex): A zombie deals lethal damage while grappling.

Single Actions Only (Ex): Zombies are slow and clumsy with poor reflexes and can perform only one standard action per round.

Damage Reduction (Ex): Zombies are very tough and resistant to blows. A zombie has two values for damage reduction both based on its size.

Your template assumes you have - int but you would still have class levels that makes no sense to me.

Basically a zombie is not the corpse of the man he is basically a flesh golem powered by negative energy. That is why the zombie monster is mechancally better.

Actually, you wouldn't. This template follows the Monster Manual version except as noted, which means you would still lose all class benefits.

Perhaps I'm missing something here - isn't a zombie, by definition, the body of a dead creature that is somehow brought into unlife? Anyway...

I like it. It sort of reminds me of the zombies from Resident Evil, which is the way a zombie should be. Kudos.
