I am currently pre-planning some potential 'boss' encounters for my game, in which the character will be traveling to a province of an evil empire known to be problematic for said empire. Their goal is to help stir up trouble into a full blown rebellion to draw off heat from some of the countries the empire is attacking.

In the course of these events, they will have the opportunity (though not an absolute nessecity) of finding any of several minor artifacts which are potentially powerful enough to shift the balance fo power in the region. Said artifacts were hidden away a long time ago when the province was first conquered by the evil empire.

While I haven't detailed out all my plans yet, I have decided one said artifact (probably a weapon) will be gaurded by a particularly nasty creature..

A feral(SS) braxat(mm2) Deathknight(mm2)

yes, I know, it's a monsterous humanoid, not a humanoid, i'm aplying the death knight template anyway. basically, it was a follower to a powerful evil cleric of a powerful necromantic diety, and the last order said cleric was able to give was to gaurd this artifact they had found (cleric was finished off by good type people, braxat deathknight finished them off...)

Anyway, the listed CR comes out to be 15 (base 9, +3, +3). Does this seem tobe about right to every one? The group will be somewhat below level for the encounter, but there are going to be 7 or 8 people, so it should make for a nice, hard encounter.

I do have an emportant question: Should it's DR be 10/magic or 15/magic for 3.5? Death knight has 15/+1 in 3.0., an di know a lot of Drs have dropped in value in the new system.

If the damage reduction is the same value, it should be 15/magic, but if it has changed it wont be...obviously. Anyway, you can find out for yourself by looking at the DnD update file thingy here. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20030718a)
I would have checked for you but my acrobat reader isn't working for some reason :(

hrm... they forgot to mention the Death Knight's damage reduction. So officially, a Death Knights Dr is still 15/+1 in 3.5! :behold:
