| 0rion7903-05-07, 03:19 AM | http://www.savefile.com/projects/1084472 Hello! I'm a veteran D&D player and I'm here to humbly propose to your attention a work that I decided to do for myself, after reading some nonsense written in the 3.0 and 3.5 monster manual, and that now I want to share with the D&D community. I like animals and, since the part about them in the Monster Manual 3.0 and 3.5, in my humble opinion, does not describe them well enough, I decided to completely re-write it. So, from the link above, you may download my "manual", that is an Excell document in a winrar archive (100% safe, don't worry) with a page for every species of animals (from apes to snakes, including dinosaurs), with some special page for extra rules and dire and legendary templates. Why a new animal compendium? I did it because I think that animals are a very important part of D&D, since they are used as mounts, animal companions, as allies in battle with summon spells, as familiars or may be simply tamed and rised from every character, not to talk about random encounters. In my module, now animals are much more similar to their real counterparts ( I made several researches on wikipedia and discovery channel and so on... ), their stats are calculated through a proto-mathematical process, and each animal now has its own fighting strategy, description and photos. All infos about animals are absolutely true, as result of a scientific research. Of course, since I'm italian, I'm sure that there are grammal mistakes here and there in the text, but I think you may like it, at least to see once the stats that I've calculated or the photos (thanks to gnu and tigerterritory.com), both if you want to use it or simply to use some of the ideas in it. Please, give me your comments, to improve it, and don't be too hard with my first experiment! Remember that it is only a suggestion, something that you may use if you want, not a "must" that says that all the rest is garbage and useless. Thanks for your attention, and feel free to mail me at the mail address reported in the last page of the handbook. Mattia Loy http://www.savefile.com/projects/1084472 |

| 0rion7903-06-07, 04:19 AM | I want it but it keeps saying the server is busy... Very strange, it is ok for me... I tried from the link that I posted here and it works. Just, for a reason that I can't understand, you have to click once on the bar at the bottom of the screen, the grey & orange one, wait for the page to refersh and then click once more and the download should start as usual. Alternatively, PM me and give me your e-mail and I'll mail it to you, if it really doesn't work! |

| 0rion7903-09-07, 02:18 AM | For the records, the discussion is going on here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36047 Please, feedback needed! |
| Airos03-09-07, 03:48 AM | Not a bad document, I only just glanced through it, although it seems much of what you have listed is in some way already published in other WotC sourcebooks. Interestingly enough, the two animals I was most looking forward to seeing were absent: the rabbit/hare and the squirrel. While I do have stat blocks for these animals which I am happy with using, I am always interested in seeing how other players/DMs stat them so that I might compare them to mine. All in all, though, good job! |
| 0rion7903-10-07, 04:16 AM | I think they would be pretty similar to a cat, about strenght, dext & con, even if they would have different feats, skill points and racial abilities. They could work pretty well as familiars too.. would you like to share your stats with me? I can include it in the next update! |
| Airos03-10-07, 04:55 AM | Rabbits can be found here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11168575&postcount=25), in this thread. The stats went through 3 builds, and quite a few typos, before settling on a final set. If you, or any other member for that matter, have any questions regarding the stats, I would please ask that you read the thread for the full discussion first. ;) Squirrels, however, are not something I have personally written up. The stats I currently use can be found in Dragon Magazine issue #280 in the article "A Little More Familiar". An alternate stat block I have kept my eye on, although I have not used them in a game, can be found here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9790093&postcount=104), in this thread, by Dracomortis. You are welcome to use my stats for the rabbit. I only ask that my name stay with them in some way, (in a contributers list, at the bottom of the stat block, a url to the original thread, etc..) :D |
| 0rion7903-24-07, 04:39 AM | http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36047 Hi, for the ones that are interested in, a new beta (not definitive yet) is out at the link above (GiP discussion). The only thing left to fix is the distribution of skill points. |
