Before you stretches a great mass of ivy-like vines that stretches across the entire area like a sea of green. In the distance, located within the very middle of the expanse, is a massive tree. An enormous lesion is at the base of the trunk and growing up and deep within with a wet, unhealthy look. Every few moments a shower of murky green liquid sprays forth, coating a vast area. Wherever the liquid falls additional vines sprout within moments, continuously adding to the mass.

A green geiser is a blessedly unusual creature that many say originated upon the Plane of Wood and can take over entire acres of land. It is more a macroscopic disease than a true creature, infecting a tree which usually rapidly dies. Only those of unusual size and healthiness survive long enough for the creature within it to mature. Soon the tree has been completely taken over, a split forming along one side and sprouting the growth that is the disease proper.

Combat
A green geiser knows only hunger, and when not recently satiated will bring to its maw any being whom stumbles within reach. If its foe proves difficult or the geiser is badly hurt it releases a magical fire. If greatly overwhelmed it erects a wall of thorns as a last resort to protect itself.

Breath Weapon (Ex): Once every 1d6 rounds a green geiser can spray a 100-foot cone of primordial slime that deals 4d6 acid damage (DC 19 reflex save halves). Plant creatures are immune to this damage. Living, non-plant creatures who take damage must make a DC 19 fortitude save or take an additional 4d6 damage as their skin absorbs the acid and begins to slough off in hunks as it is converted to plant matter. The save DC is Constitution based.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a green geiser must hit a creature of any size with its bite attack or two tentacle attacks. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity.

If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can attempt to swallow the opponent in the following round.

Rosefire (Su): Three times per day a green geiser can draw upon the living energy of the tree it occupies to set a magical fire to itself and the plants around. The flame spreads in a radius about the tree at a rate of 20 feet per round to a maximum of 100 feet over the course of 5 rounds. Once at its maximum distance the fire lasts for 1d4 rounds. This fire appears more as a leaping, flickering red mist than flame, smelling strongly of rose blossoms. Wherever it touches the color of the vines and surrounding plants glow with health. It feels cool and damp for a brief moment before it begins to burn, non-plant creatures taking 6d6 fire damage per round they remain within. Flora and creatures with plant traits (including the green geiser itself) however are healed a number of hit points equal to 1d6 + green geiser's HD per round (minimum 6 rounds) and gain immunity to cold for its duration.

This is not true flame and is not affected by spells and powers that affect fire.

Spell-like Abilities:
1/day Poison, Wall of Thorns. Caster level 11th. Save DC is Charisma-based.

Swallow Whole (Ex): A green geiser can try to swallow a grabbed Medium or smaller opponent by making a successful grapple check.

A swallowed creature takes 4d6 points of acid damage and 4d6 additional points of damage per round (DC 19 fortitude save negates) from the green geiser’s gizzard. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by using a light slashing or piercing weapon to deal 30 points of damage to the gizzard (AC 18). Once the creature exits, thick sap hardens over the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. The save DC is Constitution-based.

A green geiser’s gizzard can hold 2 Medium, 4 Small, 16 Tiny, or 64 Diminutive or smaller opponents.

Tangled Tug (Ex): Any creature who comes within 60 feet of a green geiser becomes automatically entangled within the mobile vines unless they fail a DC 22 reflex save. A creature that succeeds on the Reflex save is not entangled but can still move at only half speed through the area. Each round on its turn, the plants once again attempt to entangle all creatures that have avoided or escaped entanglement. A green geiser can then attempt to start a grapple check as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. Successfully grappled creatures are moved 20 feet closer towards the green geiser's maw each round. Once within reach it can use its bite attack. The save DC is Strength-based.

So, I'm not the only person to whom weird vinish mounds suggest some loping creature? Cool. ^^

I like this thing. It's packed with special goodies. About the gizzard, does it deal bludgeoning damage (normal for gizzards), or some peircing or slashing?

You say rosefire isn't true fire and is not affected by fire spells and stuff. How far does this go? Is it reduced by fire resistance? Does it deal lethal damage to a troll?

I firmly believe kudzu is out to take over the world :shifty:

Nope, just acid and flesh conversion. Basically swallows you into a woody sack to dissolve.

You say rosefire isn't true fire and is not affected by fire spells and stuff. How far does this go? Is it reduced by fire resistance? Does it deal lethal damage to a troll?
Well, whether its genuine fire or not it still does fire damage, so resistance and lethal damage would apply I'd think. Such as lava isn't technically 'fire', but still does fire damage and I don't think it is manipulable by spells that deal with fire.

Well, "flesh conversion" really takes place via acid, so I'd remove the other set of gizzard damage if I were you.

Could you site some spells that affect fire in such a way? Does it get past fire immunity or fire subtype? What about a fire shield spell?

I suggest you save a copy of this creature before The Migration occurs.

No, its just that the acid burns into the skin and then once absorbed begins to change the victim. Think of it as a fast acting poison or disease.

Well, would have to go over spells, but the Control Fire psionic power would not be affected as it is not true fire.

But as mentioned, as it deals fire damage, it will not get past the immunity. Fire damage is fire damage reguardless of the source. Boiling water for instance deals fire damage but is not in fact fire.

I suggest you save a copy of this creature before The Migration occurs.
Oh, I post my guys on a couple other sites as well. All's good :)

Somethin' strange... in that ol' stat block....

PEACH Busters!

(Give me a break, it's been a long day...)

Green Geiser

Initiative: +0

- Monsters without a Dex score are get a -5 penalty to any Dex related checks (see Fungus - Shrieker). Init should be -5

Armor Class: 26 (+1 dex, +16 natural, -1 size), touch 10, flat-footed 25

- Not sure where you're getting the +1 dex, but it should be -5 (see above); AC 20, touch 4, flat-footed 20

Attack: Bite +14 melee (1d8+5 plus 1d6 acid) or tentacle +14 melee (1d6+5)

- Only 1d6 acid? It's a CR 9! Give him 2d6! (My opinion, anyways...)

- You mean: Unless they succed a DC 22 Ref. save, right? :D
