An Immortality issue of a warlock. [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-05-07, 09:36 PM I have a character in a campaign, a warlock, who is quite possibly the worst thing to ever hit the world. He is possibly the most evil character I have ever played, and I love it. But that's not the point.

My character has a grand ol' fear of death. He wants to be immortalized in some way, preferrably by become undead or placing his soul inside a construct of some kind.

My problem as a PC is that I have little knowledge of undead outside of the MM 1 and 3. My DM has clearly stated that while straight Lichdom is out of the question (My first, and still favorite, option), he has said that something different would work. He suggested Vamprism (another PC is a vampire, and there is no issue with becoming one), however that conflicts with much of my character's backplot ( his worst enemy was a vampire, and he despises them in all their undead glory). So, with vamprism and lichdom out of the question, I am at an impasse of undeath.

Here's the main thing:

I want to still have my abilities (Eldritch blast, invocations).
I want to still be a PC (meaning not mindless).
It can't be vampiric or lichlike(Which means offshots of the orignal, things like spawn and the such).

I have considered becoming a death knight from the MM2, but since I have no access to the book, I can not as of yet.

I only have access to the MM 1 and 3. If someone can suggest something from the MM2, 4, or 5, however, I could borrow a friend's and look it up.

I haven't even thought about that.

Which is really strange, because I've always loved them as opposed to skeletons/zombies.

Something.. stronger would be nice, but I know my DM would allow that. How would I roleplay that though? Some vicious vile ritual..?

08-06-07, 09:31 AM you could roleplay it by seeking out a necromancer and possibly having to do something in return for the said necromancer.

Which, essentially means that it is near impossible to find a wandering necromancer.. Save the person my character is actually serving, but he wouldn't do it.

My DM and I looked at the Necropolitian in the Libris Mortis, and yes, that would be perfect.. There is just one major flaw. The ritual. The gods.. even evil ones, in Ravenloft.. They would not allow it. They torment and disfigure all requests. The character would either, A, simply die, or B, come back as a mindless undead.

The Dark Powers of Ravenloft (the only true "deities, if they can be called that) would simply not allow a ritual like that to take place. And, on the off chance it could happen, the town of Nocturnus simply doesn't exist. I tried asking the DM to perhaps understand that it was simply a small town, hidden, but he wasn't having it. I don't blame him.

So.. Necropolitans are out of the question as well.

I haven't seen the bone/corpse creatures in quite some time.. If they had flight in life, do they now fly magically, or what?
