From the swirling shadows above reach down two long, thin, ropes followed by the body of a large creature. As the shadows move away you see it to have a thick, spiked, shelled body. Mounted on it's head sit three, large, bright eyes.

Lurking Lifedrainers are large beetle-like abominations the prowl the underground searching for life to snuff out.

Lurking Lifedrainers are around 12 ft. long and there central bodies are surrounded by a dark brown exoskeleton. It's shell is flat on top and bottom and has many spines around it's edges. It's tentacles are around 13 ft. long and connect to it's body at it's under-upper section. The head is fused to the body, making it unable to move. It's three eyes are located in a triangle pattern with the point directed forward.

Lurking Lifedrainers do not speak.

Combat
A Lurking Lifedrainer prefers to try and take hold of a few enemies while floating out of reach.

Improved Grab(Ex): When a Lurking Lifedrainer hit with a tentacle attack it can them make a grapple check as a free action. If it is successful then it takes a hold and can constrict. If A Lurking Lifedrainer choses to only hold the opponent it only takes a -5 penalty on opposed grapple checks.

Constrict(Ex): A Lurking Lifedrainer deals tentacle damage with a successful grapple check. When a Lurking Lifedrainer constricts it also subjects the foe to it's poison and energy drain attacks.

Poison(Ex): Fort DC 24, damage 1d4 Str/1d4 Dex

Energy Drain(Su): whenever a Lurking Lifedrainer successfully deals constrict damage, the grappled foe must make a Fort DC 21 or gain a negative level. The save to remove these negative levels is the same. A Lurking Lifedrainer gains 5 temporary hit points, lasting for an hour, when it deals negative levels.

Thanks for any help you can give.

The number crunching looks pretty good. I'm not a big fan of aberrations generally, but this one is more beetle-like which I really like. It has a good mix of special abilities and special qualities.

Unfortunately there's a lot you don't say about them. I really think these could use more detail (more about their hunting tactics (if any) or how agressive and territorial they are. This kind of information isn't wholly necessary (most of us can make it up ourselves) but since this your first monster, I think you should create the details.

Well I for one am an aberration fan. Thanks for the post. I am really not sure what this creatures life is like. It just started out as a picture and continued from there. I will think about it.

Anyone else?
