Rather instead of Age being the determining factor for HD and abilities and all that, at each level a Dragon PC is required to complete a task/ritual/whatnot before "realizing" himself at the next level. He gains no treasure or XP from this ritual deed. At the end of the time, he must rest so many days and meditate upon his hoard -- the hoard must be of a certain size as well. It needs refining, yes. Using this method, it makes the relative size and ages useless as a gauge of ability. Thus, if you happen to be an Adult dragon, you have no way of knowing if you actually are tougher than the Young dragon challenging you or if he's just been more active. :) |

I was thinking that every time that you gain a level, you can take a level of dragon which gives you the dragon HD, saves, NA improvement. Additionally, for every 3 Hit Dice the dragon gains that is not from age advancement (the levels of dragon required to be taken from the Dragons as PCs section) the dragon gains one "experience category." For every experience category the dragon's sorcerer caster level increases by two. This can cause a dragon to have access to its spells older, for example, a red wyrmling with two experience categories could cast spells as a first level sorcerer. |
