I have a question about animal companion,
We have a Druid with a 2HD wolf from monster manual going to a 4HD wolf with, becuase she is level 3. Now can someone tell me what will be the wolfs new AC and Ability scores?

The issues are with ability scores, the monster manual says a 4HD wolf is large and there is also an example of an Otyugh (MM p292) which does not include the 4th level ability modifiers that you normally get every 4 levels, but then there is an exaple of a Monitor barbarian on page 291 (top corner) that says that when the Monitor levels up to a 2nd level barbarian he gains an ability score, since he levels up from 7HD (6 Monitor+ 1st level Barb) to a 8HD.

So the real quesiton is "Does the Druids wolf get an increase in its ability score since it has 4HD?" and if Yes then what ability score and how is it choosen?

We are playing 3.5 and just advancing from level 2 to 3.
And also what feats can the Wolf choose and who chooses the feats? PC or DM?

Thanx in advance!

The extra hitdice an animal companion receives do NOT influence her size! A normal wolf would be large at 4HD, the animal companion stays medium.

So the new AC would only be influenced by the wolf gaining dexterity, depending on whether the modifier changes or not. (Haven't got the books with me to look that up).

What you want to check is the table in the Druid-description of the PHB. That has all the changes an animal companion gets on levelling.

By the way, if I remember correctly the wolf will have her first level up when the druid reaches lvl4 (other table on the same page), so I think you have a whole PC level of seeking this one out ;)
