| Khelendross07-30-06, 01:43 AM | Hello, I've been curious as to the LA of a wolve or similer animal? |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht07-30-06, 01:44 AM | No LA. They have an intelligence of 2. They are not playable. |
| runestar07-30-06, 01:52 AM | A wolf has a LA of +2 as per unapproachable east, although that was in conjunction of the telthor template, which raised its int to 3. The previous poster is correct, with an int of 2, the animal is not smart enough to be used effectively in a campaign. |
| Rolof07-30-06, 07:55 AM | Well, according to the monster manual, if you want to know the stats of any monster, subtract 10 from all even stats, and 11 from all odd ones. Wolf: 13 str -11 = +2 15 dex -11 = +4 15 con -11 = +4 2 int -10 = -8 12 wis -10 = +2 6 cha - 10 = -4 So those would be your racial modifiers if you really, really wanted to try to play one...I suppose it wouldn't be halfbad if you played an awakened wolf, or one with a headband of intellect, or something to negate that -8 in int. Bear in mind though, that any DM that lets you play one is likely to have a conniption fit when you hit 4th level, and finds out you then attain large size...because the monster manual has a chart for advancing monsters, when a wolf is 4 HD or more, it gets large size, then you apply mods from a chart in the back: per that chart, you then gain a +8 to strength. (Note: not applicable to animal companions) DM might just rule that since you've become a character, that chart no longer applies, though. |
| Khelendross07-30-06, 10:57 AM | I would be awakend and was thinking wolf and going up in hit dice to start with because a druid can have one at 1st level... |
| Part-Human207-30-06, 11:15 AM | We did this a few months ago either on this or the Races board. An afflicted Werewolf is +2 LA, therefore a plain awakened wolf should be +1 LA +4 Magical Beast HD. |
| Khelendross07-30-06, 03:58 PM | Okay, The +1 sounds about right after weighing everything thing. Now, I just have a few questions. A wolf gets one bite attack, however with added BAB does it get more bites? Also How would I break down the 4HD into levels like savage did for other races? My DM does a stat away for his games 18,18,16,14,12,10. How would you place the stats. I'm also awakended by my Deity but not bye the same means of the spell so don't add in what that gives. I'm just allowed to have human Int now and need to adjust for that. If I get -8 to Int maybe I should sink one of the 18's in there. Also would a monk be a good class to be? |
| Golem01107-30-06, 04:09 PM | On the subject of extra attacks, see what kind of BAB the animal type has and then have a look to see what extra attacks it gains. |
| steventirey198507-30-06, 07:59 PM | Creatures do not receive additional attacks from a high base attack bonus when using natural weapons From the Monster Manual, under Natural Weapons in the back where its lists creature types and abilities. |
| runestar07-30-06, 11:29 PM | We did this a few months ago either on this or the Races board. An afflicted Werewolf is +2 LA, therefore a plain awakened wolf should be +1 LA +4 Magical Beast HD. Why does everyone keep saying that an awakened animal gets magical beast HD when it is only its type which is changed to magical beast, and it still advances in normal animal HD? |
| Dracomortis07-31-06, 11:56 AM | Regardless of what type of Hit Dice they are, they count the same for ECL. Anyway, going by Savage Species: Natural armor (+2) LA +1 Unbalanced ability scores LA +1 2 racial Hit Dice --------------------------------- ECL 4 However, because of the massive penalty to Intelligence, the fact that you cannot wield manufactured weapons, cannot cast spells with somatic components, and will never have more than one attack per round, I'd say it's reasonable to say the wolf has no level adjustment and just treat it as an ECL 2 creature, as I can't see anyone choosing to play a wolf over another race with 4 levels other than "coolness factor". |
