Animals Trained for War [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-28-04, 12:15 AM As far as the individual entries for say war trained riding dogs, war horses and war ponies, I see no reference to armor proficiency, yet in the back of the Monster Manual under the description of Animal traits, it specifically states "Proficient with no armor unless trained for war" (MM306)

So heres what I wonder

1. Where are the comprehensive rules for war training?

2. Where are the rules for armor proficiency with war trained animals?

3. If there are none, how should that entry be interpretted?

4. What kind of armor would an intelligent Light Warhorse trained for war be proficient with?

01-28-04, 10:26 AM In the Monster Manual II, there is a template called Warbeast. When added to a regular animal, they gain the abilities of a war-trained creature.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to check the SRD for postable info. Hope this helps.

01-28-04, 02:38 PM IIRC the warbeast gains proficiency in all armor, so an intelligent light warhorse is proficient in anything from plate to padded.

01-28-04, 08:56 PM hold on a second, your telling me that my intelligent light warhorse has all of the armor proficiencies? Like I can ride around it with plate mail and tank away? This seems too good to be true, if you could site me a certain rule or page where I could verify this, I would be much obliged. I see the entry about the warbeast and it seems to be a little ambigious still. Any further help will be appreciated.
