What would be considered tiny animated objects. I'm making a dungeon which is actually a collapsed wizard school, and the basement of the complex was used for spell research etc. So what kind of animated objects (besides books) would you find in a wizards cellar? Small animated objects are welcome as well, maybe I'll throw in some of those near the end. Any ideas are welcome, thanks.

Candle holder, little statues, candles, wands, stools, mats, forks/knives, wizardly caps, skulls, sacks, pots... will post more as I think of them.

Also, why not skeletons or corpses of small creatures? Players will think, 'Ah ha, undead!' and waste spells that don't do anything. Animated objects can be made of any lifeless thing afterall.

Uh, stools, spell focuses, material components, Beakers or testubes, Diagrams on clipboards, Mounted specimens, vials of potions or poisons, Wands, assorted magic items, skulls or bones from the past wizards that worked there, dissecting tools, magic books, tomes, grimoirs, and maps, Loose Floorboards, Wheeled Trays, Tapestries would be a medium object If you were okay with it as are chandeliers, Window pains or Window Frames, doorknobs, animated remains of homunculi or familiars (not undead, animated), Magnifying glasses, Dead specimens or wizards, table legs, Globes and mysterious glowing glass spheres, etc.

I would also run a couple of weaker magic traps left over from magic residue. If you have the MMIII consider making a weak living spell, like sleep or something. If you have the libris mortis, consider having some stitched flesh familiars still wondering around. I would also suggest having a homunculi or two lying around. Perhaps one or two wizards are still around as either necropolitans (Libris Mortis) or a weak lich. Having a simulacrum of the head wizard (as the simulacrum is only half as powerful) is a great final boss. Having summon monster one traps at regular intervals would've allowed the wizards to get someone else to take care of custodial duties or fend off invaders. A heavily damaged golem might still rest some place in it, unable to heal without an intellegence score. Don't forget to add magic items. It was a wizard's school afterall.

Suits of armor (Dread Guards)

Cabinets and their contents ("Cabinet, get me a bat wing! Thank you.")

Girl scout cookies (GS: Mister, would you like some cookies? Wizo: Yes, these are PERFECT!!) I need to design a Girl Scout Cookie swarm, now! :evillaugh

Perhaps you should add some old, failed experiments...biological ones.

Animated Weapons.

Seriously. Imagine a quarterstaff that rolls down a hallway, stands on one end and hops around bopping enemies on the head... a Flail drags itself down the hallway, finging it's head foward and dragging it's haft behind it on a chain like it's limping... Arrows that hop out of a quiver and wobble down a plank to a bow that fires them of it's own accord...

I've always liked the image of a book flying about the room by flapping it's pages. I think I got it from a Discworld book but I'm not sure. Those books (especially The Light Fantastic and Reaper Man) are good for weird magic images.
