I've been looking at the physical attributes of ankheg, and at its illustrations, and the more I look, the more I begin to think that the ankheg is the d20 antlion.

Opinions? Is the antlion published in another book, and am I making a fool of myself?

Hmm. To tell you the truth, I was actually thinking, I should probably check Sandstorm, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Even with the picture, The ankheg seems to appeal to me more as an antlion, especially with the examples given in media (Final Fantasy, Half-Life).

Any opinions?

I will agree, the ankheg is an antlion of sorts. The thing that separates them from their smaller kin is the ability to spit acid and of course their giant size.

The ankheg is one of my favorite monsters, and I was glad to see it make an apperance in 3.x. Evidently its the favorite of a lot of others too. :)
