Ok if you were say
Half Human/Half Iron Golem the you aquired the Half Feind Templates would you be 1/3 Human/ 1/3 Iron Golem/ 1/3 Feind or half Human/Half Iron Golem/Half Feind??

this is why I wish they wouldn't use the term "half" on non hereditary templates like the Golem and Illithid template. I personally use "Ceremorphed" for the latter. Give me a day or so and I'll come up with something for the golem.

Since the Half Golem template actually comes from attaching golem bits to yourself, then you're not a 1/3 golem 1/3 fiend 1/3 human. You were born a half-fiend/half-human, and you attached golem bits to yourself, so you're a half-fiend with golem bits.

Unfortunately, by the Wizards terminology, this means you ARE in fact a half-human, half-fiend, half-golem, and yes, that IS three halves. Because actually, they're referring to halves of different things.

Your heritage, your blood, is half fiend, half human.
However, in addition to that, your body is half golem, half organic.

Same thing goes if you inject an illithid tadpole into the back of a half-fiend, half-human, half-golem. You end up with four halves. Gods I hate that naming convention.

It's like if I were half irish, half english (which I am) and I were suddenly implanted with a bunch of cyberware, would I be 1/3 irish, 1/3 english, 1/3 machine? Not so much. I'm 1/2 irish,1/2 english. I'm also half man, half machine.

Hmm. "Golem-Grafted". That might work as a name. A golem-grafted half-human half-fiend. I like that.

Edit: I just realized something....how did you ACQUIRE the half-fiend template? Prestige class, or what?

I use 'Lesser Illithid', myself. Obviously, this is from the Illithid POV, since a Frost Giant Lesser Illithid would be rather more powerful than a True Illithid, but good luck getting the Flayers to agree about that. Hell, even the Drow Lesser Illithid NPC in my game is more powerful than an average Illithid at this point. But that's from a bunch of Wizard levels - and there are several Illithids with class levels that he fears like you wouldn't believe. (One particular bastich with 15 levels of Psion is just waiting for the players to come back to the Illithid city to kick their butts for stealing a batch of tadpoles.)

They stole tadpoles? How incredibly evil. What for? Not for implanting in themselves, I hope?

Because you realize the tadpole eats their brains, and replaces them, right? The new creature has none of the personality or class levels of the old, anymore than an illithid retains memories or class levels of its human hostbody. It's a new creature, one that thinks of itself as an illithid, though it's not as intelligent or as psionically capable.

And it's possible you already know that, and they stole them for implanting in other people, or experimenting on, or playing hacky-sack, or some reason that I haven't considered. I'm just covering all bases here. And of course, you can always rule 0 it, anyway.

So you actually are allowed to be a half dragon, half illithid, half human, half celestial, half fiendish, celestial wereunicorn (assuming your DM is a psycho)? Huh. Ya learn something new every day!

No, see, that's a common misconception. Most people think that tadpoles are good for playing hacky-sack (because of their naturally spongy bodies), but, in reality, they actually only have a bounce-factor of 3.105.

According to this equation, that is.

{T/X^9.4 x (PI + [S/T])}/PI^T

Which comes out to 3.1050607916, or rounded off nicely to 3.105, which, as you all know, is very low on the bounce factor chart.

. . . Man, I am such a loser . . . I can't believe I'm actually posting this . . . :nonono:

Of course not.

See, the Lesser Illithid Drow I mentioned earlier (Kellich) tried to hire them to steal them - so he could make more like himself (including them, but he didn't tell them that). They didn't much like that idea - even without knowing he wanted to use them as hosts, too - so what they did was steal them, and kill the Illithid who was supposed to escort them - all according to Kellich's plan so far - then they took the jar of tads to the surface and broke it, leaving the tadpoles to die. NOT according to Kellich's plan.

So, now they have a city full of Illithids, as well as a cabal of Lesser Illithids (Kellich and his progeny - he's done this before) who are royally ticked at them. They've already killed a Mindwitness he sent after them, and evaded a group of Naga L-Is and a Drider L-I. Kellich has the advantage of knowing who they are specifically - the True Illithids just know some food-things stole a jar of tads.

And, yes, I did know all that. I'm an Illithid fanboy. Them and Beholders. (I love the Mindwitness.)

Kellich doesn't consider himself an Illithid, though. He considers himself, and his progeny, something MORE than Illithids.

[Edit: In the various battles involved in this plot, I have discovered Mind Blast is particularly effective against my PCs.]

And, yes, I did know all that. I'm an Illithid fanboy.

Join the club, dude. I'm the president.

Hmm. you have to wonder what an elder brain composed of nothing but dead Ceremorphed Non-humans would be like? Is this cabal of yours old enough to have an elder brain just yet? Prolly not, but it's something to ponder.

So you actually are allowed to be a half dragon, half illithid, half human, half celestial, half fiendish, celestial wereunicorn (assuming your DM is a psycho)? Huh. Ya learn something new every day!

Well, y'see, no. Because I count at least 4 of those half-templates that are hereditary. Then you DO run into a dilution problem, because the pureblooded ancestry is so far up the line, and the breeding of these mottled progeny so unlikely, that this creature could pretty much never come to be.

However, my point is that half-templates that aren't hereditary can be piled on in a perfectly logical fashion. (mostly, because they shouldn't be called "half" anything, since they have nothing to do with their heredity, and it makes for a lot of term confusion.)

Half-Fiendish humans, for example, are fairly common, given the abundance of incubi, succubi, and messed up humans who are willing to have impure relations with glabrezu or bebiliths or babaus.

Now, is it totally far out to believe that an illithid might see this half-fiend (who has every reason to be wandering the underdark, what with the darkvision and all) and decide "Hey, I'm a bored lovecraftian tentacle-beast with a lot of brain to occupy. I should see what happens when I inject a tadpole into that winged-thing's head, tack iron golem bits onto it, dominate the hell out of it, and have it follow me around and carry things. I will be the talk of all the illithids at the breeding tank. 'Hey, did you see Caliphaes with that AWESOME golem-grafted-ceremorphed-fiend-creature thrall? He is by far a better illithid than we. I'm sure he hangs out and eats glazed angel brains with Ilsensine on weekends, he's just that cool.' Yeah, that's what they'll say about me. Thrall, capture the winged thing. Other thrall....hack the limbs off my iron golem, would you? Thrall #3, go to the elder brain tank and grab a tadpole. Fourth thrall, get me my experimenting hat. I love my experimenting hat."

Yeah, I can totally see that happening, and there's no issue of blood dilution there, because the 'Half-golem' and 'half-illithid' templates are, as I said, NOT HEREDITARY.

I'm not going to say it again.

No, see, that's a common misconception. Most people think that tadpoles are good for playing hacky-sack (because of their naturally spongy bodies), but, in reality, they actually only have a bounce-factor of 3.105.

Nope. Kellich is the oldest of the lot, and he's not very old. But that's an interesting idea you have there.

Hmm....

By the rules as written, no you cannot be…because unicorns are herbivores and were-creatures must be based off of omnivores and carnivores. Other than that (and assuming that you can add half-illithid to any living corporeal creature), the rest is possible in the rules as written if you apply the templates in the proper order. Half-celestial and celestial can't be applied to an evil creature, nor can half-fiend can't be applied to a good creature. So you'd have to add the half-dragon in between the celestial and fiendish to alter the alignment to a valid choice (since half-dragon changes the creatuers alignment to that of the appropriate dragon variety).

Anyone that actually does this is just rulewhoring, though.

He sounds almost like an optimistic version of Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. That is, however, one clinically insane illithid. But then, so am I. Clinically insane, that is. Not an illithid.

By the way, you're using the Half-Illithid template from Underdark, right? Since the FF version only applies to Humanoids, whereas the Underdark version applies to any living thing with a brain. You could even have a half-illithid treant (though not a shambling mound or assassin vine), for Bahamut's sake.

Actually, amusingly enough, it applies to any living corporeal creature that isn't a construct, which means random plant creatures and oozes are eligible. Of course, I IMMEDIATELY rule 0-ed it to say that the thing has to anatomically have a BRAIN, but the RAW have no such requirement.

It also doesn't actually specify living (unless that's been errattaed since my copy of Underdark was printed), so it could make a Half-Illithid Skeleton.

(A Half-Illithid Gelatinous Cube is the freakiest image.)

If you hadn't mentioned that I wouldn't have had to houserule that... The concept to put it on a Plant, Ooze, Elemental, or Undead would simply never have occurred to me. Although I guess now that I've thought of it, and still consider it impossible, it's houseruled now.

Seeing as I know Master of Mayhem IRL, I have to say that this statement is the most *rolls 3 on Bluff Check* untrue statement ever!

And no, the fact that I inserted that into my statement does not mean his nerdiness is rubbing off on me.

Dammit, my statement was funny +5!

I repeat, Master of Mayhem's nerdiness is not contangious.

OMG, my face! I'm breaking out! Resisting... urge... to... quote... abstact... Star Trek... episodes. My only hope is to use the force and not turn to the Dark Side. Where are the Mountain Dews?
