A blood golem is a truly horrific construct created by necromantic wizards as guards. It is constructed of iron, but at all times is covered in a thin layer of blood. Because of this, blood golems who are not maintained by a necromancer (given an amount of blood equivalent to that of 3 Medium humanoids, at least once every 2 weeks) will go out into the world to "feed" (a closer term would be "refuel"). A blood golem who has not "fed" for over a month begins to move as an engine without oil would, taking 1 damage for every move-equivalent action it takes. A golem in this state enters a Beserk (Ex) state when in sight of any living creature. A creature killed by a blood golem is brutally mauled, and usually unrecognizable, but bloodless. Blood golems prefer the type of blood used to create them (usually the same race as the creator), but will "feed" on anything it can find. It gets a +2 bonus (as a ranger's favored enemy) against this type of creature (type chosen at golem's creation and cannot be improved or changed).

Combat

Berserk (Ex): When a blood golem has gone for a month without a blood source, its elemental spirit breaks free and the golem goes berserk. The uncontrolled golem goes on a rampage, attacking the nearest living creature or smashing some object smaller than itself if no creature is within reach, then moving on to spread more destruction. This rage can only end when the golem either finds sufficient blood or grinds itself into dust.

Immunity to Magic (Ex): A blood golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance. In addition, certain spells and effects function differently against the creature, as noted below.

A magical attack that deals cold damage slows a blood golem (as the slow spell) for 2d6 rounds, with no saving throw. A magicall attack that deals fire damage speeds a blood golem up (as the haste spell) for 2d6 rounds. Hitting a blood golem with a water attack (such as use of a decanter of endless water) as a full round action automatically puts a blood golem into its Beserk (Ex) state.

Construction

A blood golem is fashioned much as an iron golem, sculpted from 5,000 pounds of pure iron, smelted with rare tinctures and admixtures costing at least 10,000 gp. A small vial of blood (usually taken from the creator) is also required (this blood decides the golem's favored type). Assembling the body requires a DC 20 Craft (armorsmithing) check or a DC 20 Craft (weaponsmithing) check. The activation of a blood golem requires the creator to pour the blood equivalent to that found in 3 Medium humanoids over the constructed body in a necromantic ritual costing 2,000 XP.

CL 17th; Craft Construct, cloudkill, geas/quest, limited wish, polymorph any object, caster must be at least 16th level; Price 150,000 gp; Cost 80,000 gp + 7,600 XP.

I'm not sure about this one, I've never used a golem in my campaigns, much less created one... the idea just sounded cool to me. Also, I'm not sure about the calculation of average hit points, I saw in my other thread someone using a formula- what is this?

I hate to mention it (as I'm always annoyed when I find out my creations have already been done) but theres a Blood Golem in the 3.5 Fiend Folio
