They may take ten on it even if rushed and stuff... Description This creature's head is like a black headed jackal's. Its swathe flows down to its sash of blue trim and silk. golden bracers with a smalle blue tint are equipped on its arms and next to that are sickles held in hands with lethal precision. Its silky white dress is also trimmed in blue. It snarls at you and then attacks Society Anubites commonly rob nearby villages to take food and other needed supplies to trade with nearby asherati towns for the prized sand sculptures. They dont normally hurt people on their raids, just silently steal small objects needed by their tribes. But they could become very violent if the gaurds attack an Anubite or are in an enemy village. They are rarely seen by travelers and their tribes are even more rare to find. But it is certain they live near an area they can easily steal from. Anubites, if not raiding or feasting, spend their time by practising with their sickles. Sickles are usually the weapon of choice for Anubites and rarely use other weapons. Guardian Anubites Once the Anubite has survived 6 raids, 6 battles, and 6 wounds the Anubite becomes a Gaurdian Anubite. These are the royal gaurds of the preists and phaoroahs of the tribes. They also rank as commanders and strategists on the battlefeild. Out of every 10 Anubites there is 1 Guardian Anubite. Tactic round by round Round 0 Prep up and get in location for ambush, set up needed traps. Round 1 Wait until opponent triggers trap then ambush with a great leap combined with pounce. Round 2 Disperse into different directions and regroup with eachother farther down ard and heal eachother. Round 3 Head closer to foes then ambush them with a great leap and pounce, try to seperate party by letting them chase you, make them think you will retreat. Round 4 If succeeded in seperation call in reinforcements for the seperated opponent to help kill it. If failed seperation, retreat in all directions and retaliate and regroup with remaining allies. Round 5+ Repeat similer strategy above. |
| InsanePsychoRabbit01-17-07, 04:15 PM | Envirenment: Any dessert I apologize for the following comment, but you mean I could find them in my ice cream? Also, what's the CR? That's all I have to say since I don't play this Age of Mythology game. |
| jakelslang2101-17-07, 04:17 PM | Ok i fixed the dessert environment. I dont know about the CR i need someone like KingGolem to determine it. |
| Raptorial01-17-07, 04:22 PM | Just think of the guys from The Mummy Returns and you have the basic look of an Anubite. |
| Dracomortis01-17-07, 05:23 PM | Out of curiosity, is anubite a real word? I've always called them that, but I had thought I just made it up. Anyway, nice monster, and I would say it's high CR 3 or low CR 4. |
| jakelslang2101-17-07, 05:28 PM | Thanks Dracomortis. And the anubite is what egyptions called it. When mythological researches study it, they call it Pholax cynopolis. Some latin relating to how the Egyptions drew the Anubites and what they looked like, and what they did etc |
| tryco01-17-07, 05:37 PM | nice monster, but i think of a special jump attack instead of an incredible high bonus (just my opinion). maybe you should look at the marruspawn (sandstorm). they look almost the same. |
| Dracomortis01-17-07, 05:39 PM | Hmm very interesting, at least now I know I wasn't just making things up. Oh, and by the way... Sickly mastery- Anubites get greater two weapon fighting as a bonus feet with sickles only As cool as a diseased anubite sounds, I think you meant sickle :D |
| jakelslang2101-17-07, 05:42 PM | Hmm very interesting, at least now I know I wasn't just making things up. Oh, and by the way... As cool as a diseased anubite sounds, I think you meant sickle :D wow.... I was in such a rush in my entry i put in sooooo many mistakes! Ok i will fix that. And Tryco, I was thinking of giving it a leap ability but they jump to an uberly high distance. Like 200 feet. Im also trying to make em as close to AOM but sure, i guess i could do that. |
| jakelslang2101-17-07, 07:41 PM | Here is the Gaurdian Anubite! | turalisj01-17-07, 08:41 PM | Try giving them Leap Attack as a bonus feat. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 07:51 AM | what book is it in? |
| Return of the Flumph01-18-07, 08:30 AM | Are these guys really in Egyptian mythology? I thought they just made them up for the game because Anubis needed a special unit. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 08:37 AM | They really are. AoM is a RTA but is made by Microsoft. And Microsoft cant hgelp but to put in faxs. And if you dont beleive me here is a link to some info on an Anubite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubite |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.01-18-07, 11:45 AM | Interesting creature. I still think it needs more text of the creature description, not jut direct descript of the physical appearance. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 12:05 PM | Ok, I added society and gaurdian anubite stuff |
| Golem01101-18-07, 12:54 PM | I know quite a bit on egyptian mythology, and if you're thinking of the big statue things with dog heads, those would be Ushabti or Shabti (I believe the term is). I've never heard of Anubites before... I could look them up if you're interested, however. Otherwise interesting monster. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 12:58 PM | I made a link for people who think i made em up. You can check it if ya want. and thanks |
| Golem01101-18-07, 01:23 PM | You are correct, although they never referred to themselves as such. They are a form of Shabti. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 01:40 PM | Shabti does ring a bell. Though i think Anubites was the first name for them when the ancient egyptions made Anubis. then when the Hyskos invaded they broke stuff... temples and found all this Anubite stuff. They brought it down to south egypt where they were killed and exposed the Anubites. The south egyptions then called em' Shabti. Though this may not be true, i think it could be a half-decent theory |
| turalisj01-18-07, 02:03 PM | what book is it in? Complete Adventurer. Gives them a bonus to attack with a successfull jump attack. Could also give them a bonus amount of damage based on a jump check. |
| TheChilliGod01-18-07, 02:11 PM | Nice monster, I suppose. History is my worst subject, so I don't really give an arse rat's about what it should realistically be called. Mechanically, this appears to be a cannonball creature (hee, I love making up hackneyed phrases!). The sort with the first surprise attack being quite nasty indeed, then it's almost dead already. If I am to expect it to live up to its CR, then hit'n'runs would be a very necessary tactic, and even then, that split round where the Anubites have hit their prey will leave at least one of them open to death. Best in numbers and hit'n'runs, I say. Make note of that. Oh, and the "Attack" row for the guardian is wrong. You've still got the regular Anubite's bonus to hit on everything. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 02:26 PM | It is? Ok ill add the bonus feat and BAB corrections |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 02:34 PM | Hang on, how do i fix the Gaurdian Anubite's BAB? Im not the greatest in with BAB and stuff. So chilli could you quote what i need to fix and tell me how to fix it? I will also put in tactics |
| turalisj01-18-07, 02:49 PM | It would be +12 attack. That is, +3 racial hd, + 6 from fighter (switch it with a desert flame and tiger claw swordsage in my opinion), +1 from sickle, +1 from strength, and +1 from weapon focus. And that is a Cr9. My level 8 swashbuckler, with a +10 melee attack. He deals +12 atk, 1d10+5 damage with his courtblade. And I am currently getting it pimped by a druid, so that damage will be even more. Now, in a pack I can see these guys as being dangerous for maybe the first round or two. After that, an adventuring group can fight back effectivly. Infact, if most of the party isn't dead by the end of roud 2, then the anubites are screwed. The damage reduction does help, but by level 9, everyone and thier animal companion will have atleast one magic weapon. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 02:56 PM | Its just the sickle right? None of its nat weps? |
| TheChilliGod01-18-07, 03:01 PM | turalisj, Monstrous Humanoids have a Fighter's BAB. +13 to hit for the sickles. And if you're going to put the Guardian at CR 9, you'll also have to put the regular Anubite's CR at 3, because adding 6 levels of fighter is, according to RAW, increasing the CR by 1 per level (assuming fighter is associated with the Anubite). Here's how I think it should probably look like. Note that these attacks assume that you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat (Anything better will only be confusing; you may want to replace one of the Guardian's feats with Improved TWF), but not the Multiattack feat. Also assuming that claw attacks are primary, and bite secondary (since I've never seen a creature with both being primary).Attack: +1 Sickle +7 (1d6+2), or bite +5 (1d4+1), or claw +5 (1d3+1) Full Attack: 2 +1 sickles +7 (1d6+2), or 2 claws +5 (1d3+1) and bite +5 (1d4+1), or 2 sickles +7 (1d6+2) and bite +5 (1d4+1)BAB: +4, Grapple: +5 Attack: +1 Sickle +7 (1d6+2), or Claw +5 (1d3+1), or Bite +0 (1d4+1) Full Attack: +1 Sickle +5 (1d6+2) and +1 Sickle +5 (1d6+1) and Bite +0 (1d4+1), or 2 Claws +5 (1d3+1) and Bite +0 (1d4+1) Attack: +1 Sickle +7 (1d6+4), or bite +5 (1d4+1), or claw +5 (1d3 +1) Full Attack: 2 +1 sickles +13/8 (1d6+4), or 2 claws +11/6 (1d3+1) and bite +11/6 (1d4+1), or 2 sickles +11/6 (1d6+4) and bite +11/6 (1d4+1)BAB: +10, Grapple: +11 Attack: +1 Sickle +13 (1d6+2), or Claw +11 (1d3+1), or Bite +6 (1d4+1) Full Attack: +1 Sickle +11/+6 (1d6+2) and +1 Sickle +11/+6 (1d6+1) and Bite +6 (1d4+1), or 2 Claws +11 (1d3+1) and Bite +6 (1d4+1) If I'm wrong about anything, do tell me. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 03:04 PM | Ill add this but i was wondering if anyone could confirm this. If it has GTWF attack with both its weapons with a move? |
| cog_n_taz01-18-07, 05:50 PM | Okay, first of all, sorry to nitpick, but it's guardian. Not gaurdian, not gourdian, guardian. Secondly, it's well done as a monster, but I have a few suggestions and one question. First off, the question: what is dessicate? the suggestions are as follows: read up on egyptian mythology, you'll need it in future. For now, though, I don't really care what game it's based on, that ain't anubis. Anubis was basically the judge of the dead, so you may want to give them the undead/deathless type, with some non-CE mummies, and the best of the lot being dry liches. Also, ignore the alignment restrictions on these, their alignment should(considering the role of anubis) be LN. They should not raid/steal, but rather either not need food and drink, or take what they need from the land. Clerics of anubis should be frequent, or adepts atleast. Finally, you may want some kind of effect reminiscent of judging, that would affect creatures based on their alignment. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 05:57 PM | Cog, thanks for your corrections but it is not Anubis, this is and Anubite. Dessicate is a spell in sandstorm when you dry water out of the foe. The damage is called dessication. I was thinking of making them dessicationg sickles but i thought it may be a bit overpowering. I will fix the Guardian spelling error. Yes i considered making them Lawful, heck they were for a bit but this is DND and i dont like lawful neutral. I know they dont need to eat or sleep they get energy from emotions. Anubis i tried to make as an epic monster for awhile but he didnt work out. And for everyone who thinks Anubis is evil hes not ((I dont think you said he was Cog, i didnt read all the way through your post)) he should be lawful neutral like what Cog said the Anubites should be. Hes just deciding if the noble is deserving a pleasent afterlife. |
| turalisj01-18-07, 06:12 PM | Ok, here are a few suggestions: * Make them LN, as Cog says * Expanding on the LN part, I would suggest a favored class of monk, and use a variant of Whirling Steel from ECP to give them FoB with scimmies. * I would say a LA of +6. Why +6? Becuase they have good DR, 4hd racial, and a total of +6 to ability scores. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 06:16 PM | I changed the allignment. Im keeping it a fighter because they cant tolerate much damage before dying monks are not very common in the desert, And i dont have a reason why they should be a monk. Ok, LA +6 but i never gave it a lower LA, I didnt even give it a LA but you guys act like i was a jerk about it. And before we argue on about the LA lets drop it and i will make it LA +6 |
| cog_n_taz01-18-07, 06:24 PM | no offense meant, you don't have to go defensive. Anyways, I was basing my suggestions not on whatever game/movie it was, but on a historical basis of what anubis actually did. If there's a problem with that, or if it was not what you were aiming for, go ahead and ignore everything I said. |
| jakelslang2101-18-07, 06:27 PM | No, no thanks for your suggestions. They were honest and stuff. It was just a bit to much you were hammering me with and in your text it felt somewhat like i made you mad. I made the Lawful change but im keeping them on needing food because they are monstrous humanoids which need to eat and a divine outsider would be to hard to make. So i hope this fixes up why i did the stuff the way i did. |
| cog_n_taz01-18-07, 06:29 PM | okay, no problem:). |
| Raptorial01-18-07, 07:11 PM | Yeah, the big thing is that the anubites are servants of Anubis, not the great jackal deity himself. |
| jakelslang2101-20-07, 10:38 AM | :bump: any other replys...? |
| Golem01101-20-07, 11:52 AM | Shabti does ring a bell. Though this may not be true, i think it could be a half-decent theory Just nitpicking again, but Anubite is, as I said, NOT an egyptian term. It's probably a translation of something. If I remember correctly, the 'ite' thing on the end comes from greek (or something like that) and so the greeks may have called them that, but the Egyptians never would have done. ANYWAY... I would replace the fighter levels with warblade levels, as suggested, from ToB (just to give it a bit more of an edge). |
