MrAdam 01-03-06, 01:55 PM	ANYHOW, I had this great idea for some new monsters for my campaign... dinosaurs, but not just any dinosaurs, New and unique dinosaurs... but a thorn developed in my plan, All dinosaur names are in latin (Tyranosaurus-Tyrant Lizard ,Velociraptor- Fast Robber ect) and regretably I do't know no latin (And before any of you even bother to sugest THERE ARE NO ONLINE LATIN/ENGLISH TRANSLATORS That I could find that weren't Pay-Per-Translators and latin/English dictionarys are expensive And I'm POOR SO does anybody think they can help me out, either directing me to a free Latin/English translator OR helping me out with their Mad Latin Skills? The Monsters Whose Names I need in Latin Armored Brawler- A large horned Ankylosaur like Thing covered in thick Armored plates with horns Spire Assasin- A man-sized velociraptor like dinosaur, adapted to life in urban environments. Known for it's amazing feats of agility and leaping from the tops of tall buildings to bring down prey Gaseous Brute- A Large thick bodied, Low slung quadrapedal beast, It's known for it's unique way of disposing of waste, much like a gila monster It proceses waste into venom, wich it belches out at prey in clouds of thick, highly acidic mist. Tongue Grapler- A man sized quadrapedal dinosaur with thick, stumpy legs, bulgy eyes, and a mouth stuffed with needle like teeth and a long, toad like tongue that can grab prey

I suppose you meant "Anno Domine", the full phrase for "AD". That's also wrong. It means "In the Year of the Lord". Yeah. Hop on over to the other thread of the same name- a dictionary and advice have already been provided.

Athanatos 01-03-06, 06:29 PM	Amusingly enough, the two dinosaur names you provided are in Greek, not Latin. Tyrannosaurus Rex is a Greek/Latin hybrid. Tyrannosaurus is Greek (Terrible Lizard), and Rex is Latin (King). Velociraptor is Latin. As has been pointed out, it roughly translates to swift robber. Then again, my Greek is VERY rusty, and there are plenty of words that are the same in Greek and Latin. So Velociraptor might just be Greek as well. It'd sure fit with the other dinosaurs, largely Greek-named.

I have no idea about Lamia, and amo means "I love", not "to love". Otherwise, all are correct. Hooray.
