| Darth_Digital01-31-05, 11:08 PM | Howdy all. I'm somewhat a novice in D&D lore so I hope you'll humour me with this question. I've not seen a yellow dragon in the monster manual (3.0) but heard whispers about them. (Mentioned in the DRAGONSTAR handbook) Does anyone know anything about them? Breath Weapons magical abilities ect ect. Thanks for your attention. |
| Derren S.02-01-05, 01:40 AM | Yellow dragons existed in the 2Ed, but were not yet publieshed in 3.5 Maybe a dragonstar book hast them, but as they are nearly extincted it is not very likely. |
| The Vorpal Tribble02-01-05, 02:12 AM | Gold or bronze dragon count? ;) |
| RavinRay02-01-05, 05:30 AM | Too bad the search function is currently down, because there are at least two older threads that ask exactly the same thing. In brief... The yellow dragon of Mulhorand in the Forgotten Realms world of Toril has not yet been officially updated to 3.0 or 3.5. This is not the same yellow dragon that appeared in an old issue of Dragon magazine along with orange and purple dragons as the three missing chromatics. |
| Selvan02-01-05, 07:56 AM | Back in AD&D yellow dragons were (a recently discovered specimen) of fairly weak desert dwelling dragons, who often rivaled brass dragons for territory and who spoke (only) their own language. Their XP-value was less than of a corresponding white dragon. Their breath weapon was a "high-velocity blast of scorching air mixed with sand". so much, without going into further details (due to possible copy-right issues) Selvan |

| ArcaneDisciple02-01-05, 06:19 PM | I“ve also seen a Yellow Dragon for 3.5 which i myself use. It“s the sonic subtype, and a little stronger than the gold. Offcourse there is only a few in Faerūn, so I think it makes sense that they are powerful. But offcourse; that“s only my opinion. ;) |
| MinionOfCthulhu02-01-05, 06:24 PM | Trying to paraphrase from the Second Edition book, not too sure about the rules about posting stuff word-for-word, even out of print things such as this: Yellow dragons are a reclusive, solitary race of dragons. They are lazy hunters, prefering to let their cunningly-prepared traps do the work for them. They speak only their own version of Draconic, which is quite different from the 'normal' Draconic language and don't bother learning any others. One of their favorite tactics is to create a steep, cone-shaped hole in the ground, similar to an antlion's trap, with them buried at the bottom with just their eyes and nostrils showing. When something falls in, they use their wings to cause the cone to collapse, drawing the victim down and into their mouth. They are immune to fire and heat and can use silence, 10' radius at will. They are selfish and territorial beasts, and their rarity is in part because of this attitude. They will only rarely let another yellow dragon into their terratory, even to mate. A mother yellow dragon will raise the children but won't make any great effort to protect them. They seem intelligent, but given their alignment (Chaotic Evil) and their unwillingness to learn other languages, this is hard to gauge. In Dragonstar they are also all but extinct, as their world was destroyed. Looking through this book, I can see a few dragons that got left out. Did the brown dragon ever get put in a book? Cloud dragon? Deep dragon? I am sure that the mercury dragon and the steel dragon never made it into Third Edition. I always felt a bit sorry for the steel dragon, who is shaped like a wyvern in that it lacks front legs. Edit: I“ve also seen a Yellow Dragon for 3.5 which i myself use. Going purely by the experience value for the two dragons, a hatchling gold dragon is worth 8,000 experience versus the 2,000 for a hatchling yellow dragon. A great wyrm yellow dragon is worth a svelte 17,000 compared to the 25,000 of a great wyrm gold dragon. |

Brown dragon is in (IIRC) Monsters of Faerun. I think deep dragons are somewhere, but I'm not sure. Mercury (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20040103a) and steel (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20040328a) are available for 3.5 for free on this very website. |
