Well it is repeating itself and if the company actually reads the message boards they can get some good ideas from the consumers of dnd. So can i get some ideas.

In what way do you think it is repeating itself? That is a pretty non-specific statement you're making. I don't doubt that it is true in one way or another, but it would still be helpful to cite an example or something so people know where you're coming from.

Also, I don't know for sure, but there are probably rules against the authors coming onto the forums to gain "inspiration." Sort of a lawsuit/liability thing. If they come on here, see someone's idea, and then publish it in a book, then there is the possibility of that someone filing against the author/WotC for plagiarism and idea-theft or whatever the proper law-speak term is.

You're right! I just checked some of my books, and D&D is indeed repeating itself. Fireball? That's been around forever. Orcs? They even predate fireball. Even the name is uninspired. Dungeons and Dragons, 3rd edition. Who comes up with this? Is D&D merely software, to be updated and given version numbers? Dungeons and Dragons was fine the first time, and Advanced Dungeons and Dragons was a step in the right direction, but by now we should be playing "Incredible Superdeluxe Dungeons and Dragons (now with Kung-Fu grip!)"

Well it seems to get old in the way you can only do so much with it not very creative in that yeah it was new 30 years ago but now its old not very unique the new generation would get in to it if it were new and unique not the same old thing it has to have high tech luxieries and such make it easier and less rules make it more roleplaying not all rules

i do think alot of their stuff is starting to repeat itself. i'm a little miffed that the book of aberrations has incomplete stats for alot of stuff in it, as well as repeated art and info from monsters of faerun among other things. gauth? what? beholder mage PrC? what? alhoon? yeah, that's a nice pic, where'd you get it from huh?

every complete book has repeated material in it.
the guide to the planes and the planar handbook?
for that matter, why do we have both a book on book of exalted deeds and complete divine.
i'm not a huge FR fan, but i do feel bad for the FR fans and how they get the shaft repeatedly on repeated feats, PrC, and tons of other stuff as WOTC continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel for new books. (the player's guide to faerun was especially guilty of this)
i'm gripy about the new races of eberron and how i see repeated feats in it. at least a DOZEN repeated feats.

and seriously, how many times will i see the feat "daylight adaptation"

i also intensely depise examples of every PrC in a book, it's just wasted space. it's like, "i'm running out of things to say and come up with, let's just feed them the prestige class again in a different format, they'll never know". when you see an example of a PrC you've seen before, printed in a book you've seen before, and then repeated twice in that very same book, (possibly three times, when they put a crummy adventure in the book as well)
you just want to rip your hair out.

back to races of eberron...
they have a halfling lath, which is a war leader 9th level ranger.
thanks WOTC, because i can't flip through my DMG and find an NPC 9th level ranger in there at all. That's half a page lost because of (what i percieve to be) laziness.
there's a half elf bard 5, you can also find that in the DMG
a gnome bard 4, see DMG
ranger 2
cleric 3
rogue 3
barbarian 3
druid 4
then we went through and explained what a warforged, shifter, kalashtar, and changelings were (complete with stats, AGAIN). because we didn't already have them detailed in MM3 or the eberron source book before.

and we lost 6 and 1/2 pages just for seeing examples of PrC's which we learned about mere pages earlier.

it sickens me, there is so much fluff and hardly any substance to any of the new books. races of eberron could have been half the size that it was.

WOTC has become lazy, lax, and has no quality control whatsoever. they're just trying to make a fast buck by selling us the same stuff in a different book cover.

i just picked up the races of eberron, book of aberrations, MM3, and NONE HAD ANY PLAYTESTING CREDITS.

the book of exalted deeds has five, and one of the people shares a last name with one of the writers, and is of a different sex, so maybe they just acredited some family members to make it look like someone did testing.

thats what i mean too they need to get their stuff together and make something that will sell to the younger pop. and make a new more suited to youger people versions put it on a gameboy or something so they get addicted then introduce the roleplaying version

Well, the message boards do seem to repeat themselves. Half the topics I see are about Clerics and Druids being Overpowered, Deepwarden rulings, Sorcerors and Fighters being weak, or Paladin's alignment arguements. They should sticky some of those threads.

despite all it's flaws, I love D&D :)

well most people don't seem to do anything about the flaws but instead just sit and complain me i tell them that they are doin things wrong

one question, do you like D&D though?

otherwise, i think you created a character but it never got enough playtime?

If you want to complain about something, complain to whoever sold you a keyboard without the Shift key.

I don't think that everything has to appeal to a younger audience. If that was true, we'd have pop-up versions of Michael Crichton books. While some people might enjoy having a pop-up version of Disclosure, I feel fine knowing that there are some things that children won't understand, and don't need to understand. I'm not sure exactly how young of people you want to be able to play Dungeons and Dragons, but the Gameboy comment makes me think that you're going pretty young. Thing is, Dungeons and Dragons has certain subject matter that I wouldn't want younger, more impressionable kids exposed to. Considering how some young kids imitate everything they see and hear, it probably wouldn't take much before there's some unfortunate incident involving kids, D&D, and kitchen knives, and all of the anti-Dungeons & Dragons people would be talking louder, and to a wider audience.

well.. i noticed the the dragons have not changed at all, same text. But something changed, the game is now much, MUCH more simple to play.

I completely and totally agree with you on the subject of Clerics and Druids.

I once saw two "OMFG Druids is so overpowered" threads on the Classes and PrCs board, and almost knocked myself out with my PHB.

(Congratulations to Bane. You've made it into my sig. :D )

Hey i am back i just felt like stating a point that they should at least try to appeal to a wider audience they would make a better profit margine but i do agree with the idea that kids are impressinable and would try something stupid

i think they should add more story to the rule books like in the original 2nd ed. books like the stories for the circles of druids

D&D has been around for decades, and has been the most successful rope-playing game pretty much ever.

I don't think WotC is going to change their entire marketing style because of one kid who has yet to learn the use of punctuation.

The gameboy comment?

I believe there was a D&D game on the GameBoy Color, and if I am correct, it featured a Beholder on the cover.

Eye of the Beholder for the Gameboy Advance. Unless I'm wrong (which is entirely possible), it sold horribly.

Not to mention a couple of other details:

1) I have not seen a legitmate criticism of the Dungeons & Dragons game thus far. Anyone care to step up to the plate?

2) Yes, posting with proper punctuation and captialization is important. People who don't do so are not only being impolite, but they diminish the importance of their message.

3) Being rude in response to percieved rudeness is a poor response. Simply ignore it and move on, or respond with kindness (make love, not flame).

4) Why in the world is this in the Monsters forum?

To answer number 4 first... i have no clue whatsoever, i'm as confused as you...

To answer number 1, i made a previous entry concerning my rageosity about repeated information in splat books and lack of playtesting and etc...that's really what's fuming me these days about it.

Lazyness isn't a valid excuse. Here are a few points you should consider:

1) The only part of you people around here can see is your posts; in a text-based online forum you are what you write, literally. Lack of punctuation gives as much a bad impression as wearing dirty and smelly clothes in a face to face conversation.

2) The point of online communities is communication; making communication more obscure is defeating the point.

3) By removing punctuation, you shift to us the burden of putting your thoughts in a coherent shape. To rehash something said long ago by another poster...
If your ideas are so unimportant that you can't be bothered to communicate them clearly, why expect others to bother reading them?

4) Punctuation isn't a frill that can be done without just because you feel like it; it's as much integral as words are. You don't skip words, so why do you skip commas?

Back to the point at hand. Elven Doritos is right: while magicmarker13 has put some actual - if limited - objections, you are yet to say anything that isn't vague to the point of meaninglessness.
