The stink of rotten meat surrounds this huge multilegged creature with a segmented 80-foot-long body. Eight writing tentacles protude from its head, growing directly from below its clacking mandibles and tooth filled maw.

“Furnal, devourer of them all is coming! God, please save us! There is nowhere to hide from the beasts maw or unholy clackle. May Tyr protect you in the afterlife should I fail!” – Thufir Hewat, Holy Paladin of Tyr.

Furnal is a bright red carrion crawler that has a body 80-ft-long. He weighs roughly 4,000 lb. Whispered in fear by all, Furnal is the harbinger of the end of the world – a messenger of doom. A unique creature, he is chained in the deepest reaches of the grey waste. None dare approach him, for most fear death from his supernatural clackle. Furnal speaks and understands Abyssal.

COMBAT

Furnal is a devastating opponent in melee, paralysing as many foes as it can before devouring them. He reserves his cackle for large forces or those who anger him.
Furnals natural weapons are considered epic, evil aligned, and chaotic aligned for overcoming damage reduction.

Paralysis (Ex): Those hit by Furnal’s tentacle attack must succeed on a DC 54 Fortitude save or be paralysed for 2d4 rounds. The save DC is constitution based.

Clackle of the Apocalypse (Su): Once per day, Furnal can clackle, unleashing tremendous destuctive power. The howl kills or destroys up to 40 creatures within a 16,400-foot spread. A successful DC 31 will save resists the effect, but targets within range still take 8d8 points of sonic damage. Creatures immune to death effects are still vulnerable to this attack. The save DC is charisma based.

Immunities (Ex): Furnal is immune to ability damage, ability drain, death effects, death from massive damage, disease, all energy damage, energy drain, mind-affecting spells, paralysis, petrification, poison, polymorphing, stunning, and wounding.

Regeneration (Ex): Furnal’s regeneration cannot be overcome, and he can only be truly slain by dealing him nonlethal damage equal to his full normal hit points plus his Constitution modifier (1,464) and then using a wish or miracle to keep him dead. Furnal regrows severed limbs in 1d6 rounds. He can reattach a severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.

Rejuvenation (Su): Three times per day, Furnal can restore himself to full hit points.

Skills: Furnal has a +8 racial bonus on climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on climb checks, even if rushed or threatened.

Now then, before I tell you what creature this origionally was, and what I did with it, I want you to tell me what you think.

Now, I'll try to do one per day, on what people want. I will do it in order of post. So the first person to post a creature will get it turned into an apocalyptic creature.

Now, I can either make an epic challenge, or a god, depending on the creature you want me to do.

If you want me to make an epic challenge, give me a low CR creature. If you want me to do a god, give me a medium onwards CR, the more it can advance the better.

I have the MM and MM2. I may have more books, so ask if I have a book before you post a creature from it.

Did you say he was a bright red X?

COuple of nitpicks. 240 speed is 48 squares, not 6 (cut and paste error?) and DR 14/epic is a very odd number.

Wow, this thing is a BEAST. I am going to guess it is was a Carrion Crawler origonally.

Are you planning on doing more of these, Dawnbringer?
Heralds of destruction, harbingers of chaos, and usherers of the apocalypse... there's not many of them that are really good.
I mean... there's this guy, Furnal, and then there's Big T.
dawnbringer

11-24-07, 01:21 PM
And grizzled gryphon is correct! It was indeed a carrion crawler before it became this.

Basically, I applied a template to a carrion crawler, and it turned into that. It is now an Apocalyptic Creature.

Well, I will ask for the first critter, then.

Lets see what a Gryphon looks like.

2) Gravetouched Ghoul multi-headed pyro-troll with armour and shield of acid resistance.

1) Any form of undead tarrasque with turn resistance

Even though i'll do the griffon first, you do realise that an undead terrasque loses its regeneration ability, and that, in this template, undead keep their subtypes instead of becoming outsiders, right?

Giff prefers not to enter combat, but when he does, he always wins. He kills all evildoers in his land, and reserves his mighty screech as a last resort.

What kind of action is required for a rejuvenation use?
A free action or swift action would be devastating. The cleric begins casting miracle and then the creature just stands back up before the casting is done.

I love that.

My request:
A huge beetle that has an aura of menace or similar effect that stretches across a radius of something like ten miles, so that even if it's on the horizon in relation to a city, everyone in the city begins to have disasters and accidents (failing skill checks - ruining their day's work), etc. Then, when someone points out that this insectoid monstrosity is approaching town, it has some ability to avoid being confronted in melee. It must have some ability to burrow then hide where it burrowed.
And its only ranged attack should be something like a death effect that requires concentration. By concentrating on a target within a given range, the target must save or die - successful save means it gets some other effect, like becoming fatigued and taking some nonlethal damage.
The kicker is that people might assume it's not very powerful because it's huge and not colossal, like many other epic challenges. But the way to "remedy the size deficiency" would be to give it some kind of magical AC bonus, like a deflection effect or something.

Unless I am mistaken, I think that he is asking for people to submit critters they want this template to be added to. I don't think he wants to make up critters from scratch. I could be wrong, though.
dawnbringer

11-26-07, 06:23 PM
Thats exactly what i'm asking for. That, or state which book it is in.
Like for smeagol, I don't even know where the gravetouched template is from (Or the pyro-troll for that matter). I would much appreciate it though if I wasn't asked to create a creature from scratch. I'm sure you could make a small version of the beetle you requested. If you can't, i'll see if i can find a similar beetle in my 3 tome of horrors book and add abilities to it. I might just be able to do that.

I'll do one of smeagols creatures tomorrow if I can find the grave touched template, since I havent been able to find it yet.

And on your kicker, not all people will think a collossal creature is has a higher CR than a huge one :). After all, some players would figure that the challenge rating for the monster they are fighting will be equal to the party CR. As for rejuvination use, it doesn't specify, but I would guess at a swift action.

This creature appears as a giant beetle with a dark green carapace and wing-covers. Its body is covered in leaves and sticks. Its mandibles are silver, long and razor sharp and its legs are black. Skizzik makes its lair deep in the forests of the beastlands and uses a mixture of saliva and earth to stick rubbish (leaves and twigs, for instance) to itself in order to attack by surprise.

COMBAT

Skizzik begins combat using its death rattle ability. Any creatures that survive are bitten by the beetle’s mandibles and devoured or hit by its blister spray. It reserves apocalyptic rattling as a last resort or if it is extremely hungry.

Rattle of the Apocalypse (Su): Once per day, Skizzik can build up enormous rattling and drive it into the ground, causeing a shockwave for miles, unleashing tremendous destructive power. The rattle kills or destroys up to 54 creatures within a 22,000-foot spread, centered on Skizzik. A successful DC 40 Will save resists the effect, but targets within range still take 11d8 points of sonic damage. Creatures normally immune to death effects still suffer these effects. The save DC is Charisma based.

Immunities (Ex): Skizzik is immune to ability damage, ability drain, death effects, death from massive damage, disease, all energy damage, energy drain, mind-affecting spells, paralysis, petrification, poison, polymorphing, stunning,
and wounding.

Regeneration (Ex): Skizziks' regeneration cannot be overcome, and he can only be truly slain by dealing him nonlethal damage equal to his full normal hit points plus his Constitution modifier (1,913) and then using a wish or miracle to keep him dead. Skizzik regrows severed limbs in 1d6 rounds. He can reattach a severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.

Rejuvenation (Su): Three times per day, Skizzik can restore himself to full hit points.

Death Rattle (Ex): Once every 1d4 hours, Skizzik can vibrate its carapace to produce a clicking noise that sets up vibrations in all creatures within 30 feet. Affected creatures with 33 HD or less must succeed on a DC 60 Fortitude saving throw or die immediately. Creatures with more than 33 HD or those that succeed on their Fortitude save take 8d6 points of damage. Since the effect stems from the vibrations set up in a victim’s body and not from the clicking noise itself, silence offers no protection against this attack. Likewise, a creature that cannot hear can still be affected. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Improved Critical (Ex): Skizzik threatens a critical on an attack roll
of 19 or 20 with its bite attack.

Blister Spray (Ex): Once ever 4 rounds, as a standard action, Skizzik can shoot a jet of inky black liquid in a 80-ft line. A creature in the area must succeed on a DC 60 reflex save to avoid the spray. On a failed spray, the target takes 12d6 acid damage and a -2 conditional modifier on attack rolls and ability and skill checks for the next 1 minute (10 rounds) from painful blisters and welts that quickly appear on exposed skin. A DC 20 heal check or any cure spell heals the blisters and negates the penalties. The save DC is constitution based.

Vorpal Bite (Ex): If Skizzik scores a natural 20 on its attack roll and confirms the critical hit, it severs one of the opponent’s extremities (roll 1d6: 1-3 arm, 4-6 leg; 50% chance of either right or left).

Immunity to Death Effects (Ex): Death watch beetles are immune to any effect that instantly slays it, such as finger of death, slay living, and so
on.
Skills: *Skizzik has a +8 racial bonus on Hide checks in forested areas.

Heres your beetle, what do you think? I rushed a little bit, but thats cos I need to do coursework, tell me if u spot anything wrong.

i like the rattling abilities. it's something new and interesting. Also can i post up an apocalyptic creature of my own?

The Gryphon has an AC of 53, but the beetle has an AC of 19? I can only imagine that was a typo.

Fixed that.

Do you mean to apply the apocalyptic template yourself and post on boards?

While potentially entertaining for Skizzik, what does Giff, King of Griffons, think about that?

"My loyal subjects, you are dear to my heart... i will protect you with all m-"

And sure, you can try to make your own apocalyptic creature.

Giff is great, by the way. I have been kicking around the idea of doing a game where some sort of very important item (like an artifact of immense power) is being protected by a bunch of awakened Gryphons. Now I have there leader...:D
