This question may seem moronic, but I just want to be sure, as I don't really know where I could find the answer. In the Savage Species book, it says that a 6th level Aranea (using the monster class listed in the book) casts spells as a 3rd level sorcerer. If a player playing an Aranea then took a level of sorcerer at 8th level (the Aranea class has 7 levels), would he then cast spells as a 4th level sorcerer, or would he have two seperate sorcerer spell lists, one for the casting he gets from Aranea and one from the levels of sorcerer he takes?

He/She/It would cast spells as a level 4 sorcerer. At least that's how I rule it as a DM.

*nods* Class levels stack with racial abilities that grant the same powers. If a monster has Uncanny Dodge as a racial feature, 2 levels in barbarian will bump it to Improved Uncanny Dodge. Dragons who take levels as sorcerers add the levels to their racial spellcasting level for purposes of spells known and per-day, as well as caster level checks. So yes, an aranea who takes sorcerer levels gains spells as if the reacial ability were actually levels of sorcerer.

Now, if that aranea took levels as a wizard, then you get into multiple spell lists.

Ok, came up with another question about the Aranea monster class listed in the Savage Species book. The text mentions that "it starts play with three feats" and then later under Class Features the text states that the Aranea receives one feat at 1st level and another a 5th level and after 7th level receives feats normally according to its character level. This has left me confused. Does an Aranea have 5 feats after its seven levels?

That could have been worded better.

What they mean is that a full-grown, ready-to-class-level aranea has three feats. When using the monster-level option, those feats are divided up so you start with one (like any character), get one at 5th, then you switch to the class level progression after 7th (one feat every third level, plus any class-related bonus feats), with that third feat popping in at 6th level (the last level of the monster class).
