Josh Wilhoyte 02-26-04, 04:45 PM	The Aranea casts spells as if it were a 3rd level Sorceror. If one were to play an Aranea Sorceror, would the Sorceror levels stack with the Aranea's casting? Ie. if the character was 8th level, that's 3 HD from the Aranea, a +4 LA, and one level of Sorceror. Does this character cast as a 4th level Sorceror? or as a 3rd level Sorceror and a 1st level Sorceror.
captainswift 02-26-04, 04:51 PM	The effective caster levels would stack. He would cast spells as a 4th level sorcerer. Other affects, notably the power of his familiar, would still be based on his 1 level of actual Sorcerer.
Josh Wilhoyte 02-28-04, 03:19 PM	Is that something that is written down somewhere, or is it simply an opinion? No offense, just trying ot figure out how it is "supposed" to work. More opinions welcome.
captainswift 02-28-04, 03:32 PM	It's not mentioned specifically for the Aranea, but nearly all creatures that have effective spellcaster levels (Rakshasa, for instance), in which taking character classes is mentioned, explain this. Outside of the core rules, it is explained on page 18 of Savage Species. It uses the Drider as an example, but applies to all creatures with innate spell-casting levels.
