Aranea's humanoid form is doppleganger? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-13-06, 01:21 AM Har...I see nothing outright saying this would be against the rules. While it would be outright cheese, as the Savage Species says it gets all the traits of the race, and any balanced GM would say no, we're kinda playing a cheesed game but it has to go by the rules...

Anyone know if the Aranea could actually shapeshift into the doppleganger as it's form and then use the dopplegangers detect thoughts and shape change abilities? *giggle*

09-13-06, 01:41 AM An Aranea change shape form has to be a humanoid. Dopplegangers are monstrous humanoids. You can't do it.

03-11-07, 10:16 PM Change Shape (Su): An aranea’s natural form is that of a Medium monstrous spider. It can assume two other forms. The first is a unique Small or Medium humanoid; an aranea in its humanoid form always assumes the same appearance and traits, much as a lycanthrope would. In humanoid form, an aranea cannot use its bite attack, webs, or poison.
The second form is a Medium spider–humanoid hybrid. In hybrid form, an aranea looks like a Medium humanoid at first glance, but a DC 18 Spot check reveals the creature’s fangs and spinnerets. The aranea retains its bite attack, webs, and poison in this form, and can also wield weapons or wear armor. When in hybrid form, an aranea’s speed is 30 feet (6 squares).
An aranea remains in one form until it chooses to assume a new one. A change in form cannot be dispelled, nor does an aranea revert to its natural form when killed. A true seeing spell, however, reveals its natural form if it is in humanoid or hybrid form.
I thought the humanoid form's racial abilities were part of its traits.

03-11-07, 11:45 PM It looks like changeling is a valid form. It doesn't seem more broken than any other race, changelings don't get much besides Change Self.
