| BrianMc22312-22-07, 09:42 PM | I was looking through the BoVD with a friend and we had a (what we thought to be) very cool idea involving the Lords of Hell. We thought it would be a lot of fun to play a campaign where we controlled Dispater and Asmodeus, but started at level 3 or so and built our way up till we were the Archdevils they exist as. (I realize this totally destroys the history they have, but it sounds fun.) The problem is, I have no idea how to do such a thing. One has 35 HD, casts spells as a cleric, and has full BAB, not to mention somehow their stats have to increase a lot. (The one with lesser stats still has a total of +39 in bonuses.) They have a bunch of SLAs, including some nasty ones (Wish anybody?), and at-will for most of them. I imagine it would get phased in based on spell level, and start at something like one a day, but I've never really done anything like this. They have a few Su: abilities that are nuts, that would have to be broken down too, but I doubt my own abilities to break them down. (I'm also not sure how the DCs are calculated. (I would guess 10+HD/2+Cha but it doesn't work out) There are some other issues, and in all honestly the chances of us finding someone who is both able and willing to DM such a thing are almost nil, but I have a ton of time on my hands, think this sounds interesting, and figured there might be a few others who would agree. So basically any tips about making a progression are welcome, and I'm really asking more for general information than anything. (Also, I'm probably toeing the line as far as the CoC is concerned already, so I'm not sure how much more in depth one could go without a Wizo having a problem with it.) |

Once you become pit fiends, you'll need to impress the Lords of the Nine enough to be promoted to dukes of hell (use the template from Dicefreaks). At that point, you need to somehow find a way to depose a sitting Lord and take over his layer. |

Some of them started as mortals, died, became lemures, progressed up the heirarchy eventually to Pit Fiend and finally ascended to a unique form. Some of them (Baalzebul for instance) started as a mortal, died, became an archon, fell from LG to LE, and either worked his way up to archdevil or was transformed from sword archon to his current form. Some like the Hag Countess was once mortal, died, became a larvae, became of hordeling, became a night hag, and gained power and ultimately was granted her position. It's not going to be easy, or lend itself to playing a game where you're starting at low 'levels'. I suppose it's plausable, but way too awkward for my tastes. |

My thoughts exactly...I'd say start as Imps or something of 'lowly' heirarchy stature then ascend through the ranks of devils as your infamy gains you more and more power. Also, on another note, I've done something similar to this in my PC's realm. If you've seen the latest Dungeon magazine, you'll begin to see what I'm talking about. Demogorgon is caught in a coup involving many other demonic entities as well as angelic & mortal alike. When the killing blow was cast by a Half-Fiend Drow (He now holds Demogorgon's place in Abysm) and Demogorgon's soul captured in an Iron Flask a new being rose to power in his stead. |
