I'm looking for a pair of monsters that have good archer capabilities to face a party of 4 level 12 characters. Any ideas?

Arrow Demons from the MM III sound like a good bet. Each are only a CR 7, though they wouldn't be difficult to advance.

Honestly, I was being lazy and looking for something I didn't have to adjust. Otherwise I would just create a few rangers or archer PrC's.

Let me know what CR you want them and I'll be glad to advance them for you.

I'd say just use a large group of archer demons. Fighting a squad of these things would be much harder than taking down a single demon that is a CR 12. Especially since they can scatter using greater teleport and continue to harass the players as they try to get into melee with a suad that is far better with the opposite.

Well I want 3 of them to be a CR 12 encounter.

I can't have too many of them either because the encounter will take place in a crowded dungeon room. I do appreciate Tribble offering to advance them for me. I'm just being really lazy because I procrastinated and I have to host a session tomorrow.

You could use 2 (EL 12) or 3 (EL.. um.. 13?) CR 11 Harpy Archers from MM1; they don't take all that much space and if the ceilings are high enough, they could easily have little perches up off the floor to rain death down up the party.

Well, I was going to suggest arrow demons...but I see that I've been beaten to it...by a long shot. (Heh, I made a pun without realizing it. I'm so clever.;))

I say just use 4 fire giants, using MW Large Mighty Composite Longbows (+10), Bracers of Archery, and armed with +1 Flaming Arrows. (Attacks : +12/+7 Dam 2d6+1d6+10). That should be good enough for anyone

I would find it much quicker and easier to advance a monster than create an NPC. It's the bane of my life as a DM spending hours creating NPCs that end up dead on the wrong end of the rogue's pointy stick within about 10 seconds of them being introduced. Maybe I spend a bit too much time on my NPCs, but I feel I owe it to the little chaps in the yellow jerseys...

I went with the harpy archers, they were right there in the core MM and fit well into my campaign. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

What would be the point of placing archers in a crowded dungeon room, I wonder?!
