For example, a trumpet archon is the equivalent of a 20th-level character, and a hound archon the equivalent of an 11th-level character. Class levels are added normally after this. This system is quite problematic and has seen a great deal of criticism, but no proposed replacement that I have seen works much better. The Half-Celestial template represents a creature that is literally half-celestial (or half-divine) and can only be applied to an intelligent creature; the Celestial Creature template represents non-humanoid creatures that simply reside on upper planes and therefore contain/exhibit/represent some small portion of that plane's virtue; they are not, in fact, celestials themselves. |
